Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary

We all wished resident Linda and her husband Peter a Very Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary.  Peter joined his wife for an extra special champagne lunch in a private dining room at a table set just for two.  Chef served a wonderful lunch of Mr & Mrs Machin's choice followed by a giant chocolate eclair cake, soft centred chocolate puddings and a trifle!

World Bee Day

What a brilliant day we all had marking World Bee Day and learning more about the importance of bees to food production and the environment.

Residents got involved in different creative activities during the day, from planting bee-friendly plants in the garden and making bee houses to producing colourful paintings of bees.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a little honey tasting session and explored some healthy cooking recipes with honey.

It was a lovely day, which brought a lot of smiles and laughter into our home

A "Blooming Haus" Master Class

We have been inspired to create some new floral designs and were treated to an interactive virtual floristry masterclass courtesy of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski, from Blooming Haus.

Blooming Haus started with a small pop-up shop in Chelsea.  They have since blossomed spectacularly on to the floristry scene as ‘floral engineers’, carving themselves an outstanding reputation as one of the UK’s most innovative floral design studios. The company is the vision of Master Florist, Michal Kowalski and his business partner, Michael Dariane. The pair bring a completely fresh approach to floristry and their ambition to push the boundaries of traditional floristry has laid the foundations of Blooming Haus’ success to date.

Carer retires after 18-years!

After 18 years of continuous service at Lawton Manor in Church Lawton, much-loved Carer, Lillian Taylor has decided to retire.

Staff and residents at the home sent Lillian off in style with a buffet lunch, cards, flowers and presents to thank her for many years of dedication. Everyone at the home has fond memories of Lillian and she will be missed.

During her time at Lawton Manor, Lillian has cared for hundreds of residents.  Lillian is also known for her amazing cupcake bakes that she always brought in for everyone.

Lillian said: “Lawton Manor is like a family to me and though I’m looking forward to retirement, I’m really going to miss everyone here so much!”

International Nurses' Day

We celebrated the anniversary of the birth of nursing pioneer Florence Nightingale, also known as International Nurses' Day, by acknowledging our dedicated and hardworking nurses.

To mark the occasion and to say thank you, the residents asked for the local ice cream lady to come and serve staff and residents 99 cones and lollies.

Nurses received cards and thank you flowers from residents which were displayed around the home and shared with the team to make the day extra special.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lawton Manor care home in Church Lawton were treated to an armchair work out courtesy of the Green Goddess, Diana Moran, and Shackleton’s furniture company, followed by a mindfulness session led by Shackleton’s Emma Raybould.

Diana rose to fame as a glamorous fitness guru on BBC’s Breakfast Time in the 1980’s and has made an outstanding contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of people in the UK. She now brings that experience to Shackletons as their Health and Wellness Adviser.
