Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Cheers for Beers

We celebrated Britain’s national alcoholic drink and spread beery love throughout the home by joining in for the annual National "Cheers To Beer"

Beer has been the national drink of Britain for millennia (before it existed as the UK).  Heather ale is most likely to have been the first beer consumed on these shores. It was brewed in Scotland from at least 2,000 BCE by a pugnacious warrior tribe known as the Picts.  Over centuries waves of invaders – Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Vikings – brought the habit of drinking their favourite libation with them which served to reinforce native Britons’ already long held veneration for beer.

Residents enjoyed a beer tasting session, there were several beers to choose from including some traditional favourites and some new Brand beers.

By popular vote, the ladies elected for a German grapefruit pale ale and the gents were for traditional ales!

Sunflowers are shooting up

Residents planted sunflower seeds a few weeks ago and have now repotted to plant out as the stems are shooting up so quickly, We have really enjoyed watching the seeds grow into tall stems and can't wait for the flowers to appear for everyone to admire.  Who will be the winner of the tallest Sunflower this year, watch for updates!

Exploring Hereford Cathedral

We are getting ready to join another amazing virtual event on 8th of June.

Hereford Cathedral’s team will treat our residents to a virtual talk about this beautiful historic building, as we explore the stunning gardens, the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library.

The event will be available to watch via YouTube live, please contact us for more information.

Residents enjoy virtual safari tour

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Lawton Manor were treated to an exciting live streaming tour of Knowsley Safari, hosted by Engagement Assistant, Verity Dann.

Knowsley Safari has been welcoming visitors for 50 years since it opened in July 1971.  Situated in the Knowsley area of Merseyside, the safari park is home to 750 animals on a 550 acre site, it boasts the longest safari drive in the UK.

Verity’s workshop took a peek behind the scenes at Knowsley to find out what it is really like to work in such a demanding yet rewarding world.  Residents discovered what a day in the life of a keeper entails from feeding time with the giraffes and meerkats through to training sessions and everything in between.  Verity explained some of the conservation projects that Knowsley Safari is involved with and how this is positively affecting some of the world’s most endangered species.
