Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Being Funny for Money on Red Nose Day

Happy Red Nose Day from all Staff and Residents at Lawton Manor!

Our residents really loved putting on red noses, in support of Red Nose Day. Throughout the day, we all tried to do at least one thing to make someone else laugh and be 'funny for money' in aid of Red Nose Day and the charity Comic Relief.

We all had fun trying on the red nose, all pulling funny faces and making each other laugh! In the evening we got together to watch the wonderful TV show of Comic Relief and enjoy the comedy involved.

Mother's Day

Our home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting in recognition of Mother’s Day and all the mothers in our home. During the day, we celebrated by arranging flowers and chocolates for our ladies, and hosting an afternoon tea party for everyone to enjoy.

Every one of our lovely ladies is very special, and very appreciated by all of the residents and staff here at Lawton Manor.

We would like to wish everyone a Happy Mothers Day, we hope you were all spoilt.

Valentine's Day

Our lovely Barbara & Joan have some dating advice for the younger generation as to what makes a successful relationship!

Barbara said ‘Just keep loving one another, always work as a team and remember you are equals.’

Joan, who has been married for 72 years said ‘communication is key, always love one another unconditionally and remember, your wife is always right!'

All of our staff and residents at Lawton Manor would like to wish you all a happy Valentine's Day!

Housekeeper Celebrates 10 Years Service

One of our wonderful Housekeepers, Ross, has received a prestigious 10 Year Service Award in celebration of working at Barchester Healthcare for 10 years.

Ross started at Barchester in January 2014 and has worked with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been met over the years. To thank him for his hard work and service, Ross was presented with flowers, a voucher and a special thank you token to honour this achievement.

We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of loyal service with Ross. Please join us in offering him a huge congratulations!

Yogi the Greyhound Visits with Charity

We had a wonderful visit from gorgeous Yogi the Greyhound this week!

Yogi is a 2 year old rescue who was successfully placed into foster care by the wonderful Erin Hounds Sighthound Rescue, who visited us with Jo and Barbara, two great ladies who work with the charity to place a number of different Irish Sighthounds with new families year round.

Erin Hounds are a charity particularly close to one resident's heart. Our lovely Sarah, who moved to Lawton Manor in early 2023, rehomed her beloved Greyhound, Tweed, as she was unable to bring him with her due to their circumstances. The team at Erin Hounds were so amazing in placing Tweed in a happy foster home, and Sarah was beyond grateful to them all for the care and attention offered to both her and Tweed. She also received regular updates on him, with pictures and details on how he was doing.

As a thank you, you may remember back in December we appealed that Sarah was raising money for Erin Hounds with her crafting keyrings, and 50% of the profits were to go to them and their work. As a result of everyone's incredible generosity, Sarah was able to present Jo with £160 for Erin Hounds this week! The team were so grateful and we were honoured to be a part of it.

Well done Sarah, it was such a lovely visit from Yogi and it was a pleasure to meet him, Jo and Barbara!

Medical Detection Dogs

Across our services, our residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs. Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action. We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff. It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.
