Activities at Lawton Manor Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Chloe Cameron

Activities Coordinator

This is Chloe and she is our Activities Coordinator here at Lawton Manor. Her job is to physically and mentally stimulate our residents by offering a range of activities for them to enjoy. She wants to get everyone involved and make our home community and atmosphere as positive and welcoming as possible.

Making sure that our residents have things to do that they really enjoy doing is something that Chloe holds very close to her heart. It is so important to make sure that they are happy and enjoy all of the activities and events that we host for them. A lot of our residents also enjoy our special trips out on our Minibus as we create new, special memories together.

Halloween Party

Here at Lawton Manor, we got into the spooky Halloween spirit of things by creating painted, decorated and carved pumpkins.

We then hosted a fun-filled party in the afternoon with delicious Halloween inspired treats, mocktails and themed music from our wonderful entertainment!

Some of our residents preferred to dress up for the occasion, others got involved in themed quizzes and games, and enjoyed watching Halloween films.

We all had a spooktacular time!

Spooky Sweet Treats

Ahead of all of our Halloween celebrations coming up, we decided to get into the spirit early with some biscuit decorating!

A simple activity but still so enjoyable, what better than to ice some biscuits with spooky faces for everyone to enjoy?! Some of our lovely ladies got together in our Squirrel's Den Cafe and put their best artistic skills to the test by creating these yummy gingerbread pumpkins. They all said how much they loved it as it reminded them of how they used to mark these occasions years ago. Some even use to bake their own biscuits to decorate!

We think they look great! Let us know what you'd ice onto your biscuits.

Points for Floor Darts

There's nothing quite like a game of darts! So we've made it a little bit easier for our residents who like to sit down and we've made 'floor darts' a regular at our home - which goes down a treat every single time!

The concentration on everybody's faces says it all! Our competitive nature comes out every time, and we like to see who can score the most points. We all know that points mean prizes so there's always a winner or two!

Jonesy the Dachshund Comes to Visit

We had the cutest little visitor at Lawton Manor this week! Our Regional Trainer Val brought her newest family member Jonesy to visit the residents. (Even some of the staff got a cuddle!) After all of his adventures, he eventually needed a nap and ended up falling asleep on Joan's lap.

Jonesy is a Miniature Dachshund and is only a couple of months old. Val brought him home and not long after she decided to bring him in to visit the residents as soon as possible as she knew how excited they'd be. His sister Piper will be home this weekend and I'm sure won't be far behind Jonesy in coming to visit us!

Battle of Britain Memories

We celebrated Battle of Britain Day on 15th September for the 83rd Anniversary, which is particularly significant to one of our residents, Ivor.

Residents and staff all got involved with the spirit of the themed day. Ivor took the opportunity to share his experiences with residents and staff as he was an Officer and a Squadron Leader back in the day, who was trained to fly any aeroplane including fighter planes! Ivor dressed in his officer uniform to show us all.

Our team were amazed by the stories and how smart Ivor looked in his uniform. We're amazed he still has it and it is still in such wonderful condition 83 years later! Ivor is even a member of the Caterpillar Club, which is an association of people who have successfully used a parachute to bail out of a disabled aircraft.

Thank you Ivor for such a wonderful afternoon of storytelling and reminiscing!

Harvest festival brings community together

Staff, residents, relatives and the local community came together at Lawton Manor to enjoy a Harvest Festival that was held in the home’s grounds on Saturday 9th September.  Lawton Manor hosted a variety of activities throughout the day, including stalls with goodies available to buy and live entertainment from the lovely Belle Aria, local singing trio, which were enjoyed by everyone who came to the event. In true Harvest Festival fashion, we also had a collection for our local foodbank which will be delivered to them in person by some of our residents in the coming days.

Staff at Lawton Manor made everyone feel welcome and were delighted to see different generations having fun together. Visitors enjoyed plenty of refreshments, such as tea, coffee, and cakes prepared by the catering team, who were hard at work making sure that a great time was had by all – it really was a team effort!
