Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Summer Fair Fun

Everyone had a great time at our Summer Fair. We had multiple stalls set up and residents and visitors had lots of fun with the quiz, which resulted in custard pies being thrown.

The Wheels on the Bus

Our new minibus arrived recently; residents are looking forward to going on some adventures.

Baby Ducks

We have had the pleasure of watching these 6 little ducklings grow over the past 10 days. They came to us on Monday 19th June in an incubator. Residents were able to see them hatch and grow into the lovely little creatures that they are today.

Fun During a Power Cut

On 21st June, we had a power cut that lasted from 11:50 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It was an issue with the local substation and over 60,000 homes lost power. This didn't stop day-to-day life at Laurel Bank, though.

It was all hands on deck for lunch; staff were running up and down stairs between the floors with plates of hot food to ensure that residents had a warm meal. We had activities on each floor: in reception, we played Boggle, on the Pine Unit, we had our art session as planned, and on the Willow Unit, there were drinks on the patio.

It was great to see the staff pull together and make the day a great success, so much so that residents forgot the power was out!

The Stringboxes

We were joined by The Stringboxes recently; they really engaged the residents, who happily sang along with the musicians. Their African Harp garnered a lot of attention as well.
