Activities at Laurel Bank Care Home

Activities are a fundamental part of a rich and varied lifestyle here at Laurel Bank Care Home, which is why we organise both physically and mentally stimulating social events for those we support. The weekly itinerary is ever-changing, and regularly includes art lessons, chair-based exercise, trips and visits from a variety of different animals, as well as one-to-one time for residents who prefer the peace and quiet. Our team actively tries to incorporate the hobbies and interests that are meaningful to residents into the activities schedule as encouragement to continue with much-loved pastimes.

Jaimy Lee Almond

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Jaimy Lee, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Laurel Bank.

I have worked in the care home industry for over nine years. I started working at Laurel Bank in 2018 as a carer, and then, I was promoted to senior carer which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I moved over to activities in 2020, as I was asked to help out and help encourage residents to join in. During this, I realised how much fun it could be and chose to stay on and got promoted to Activities Coordinator.

I love my role as every day is different and I try to make sure the residents are happy and engage in meaningful activities, this also helps support the transition for new residents.

Life at Laurel Bank Care Home

Sea Life London Aquarium

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Laurel Bank care home in Lancaster were treated to a virtual tour of the wonderful underwater world of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, hosted by Senior Curator, James Wright and his expert team.

SEA LIFE London Aquarium is home to more than 300 species and 4,000 creatures, including Gentoo Penguins, Sea Turtles and Seahorses, which are cared for by its dedicated team of 15 Aquarists. The shark tank alone is one million litres in volume and six metres deep and is home to five species of sharks – Sand Tigers called Bungle and Zippy, a Grey Reef Shark, Nurse Sharks, Tawny Nurse Shark and a shiver of Black Tip Reef Sharks as well as a Bowmouth Guitarfish called Betty.

Virtual service for Easter

We thoroughly enjoyed a virtual Easter Service thanks to Father Tim of Lancaster Priory.  Our residents took great comfort in a celebration of new beginnings, as we look forward to more positive times ahead with family and friends.

Eyes Down

Here at Laurel Bank, our residents had an afternoon full of laughs playing bingo. With some small prizes for getting a line and some bigger prizes for a full house, everyone really got into the swing of it. As you can see, one of our residents even took over as caller.

Residents enjoy gift

A little while ago a very kind local lady dropped off some of these magic painting books for our residents and we wanted to let her know that we absolutely love them! Big thanks to Andrea Dutton at @theenchantingbookshelf, your generous donation has put a big smile on many of our residents faces

International Women's Day

Here at Laurel Bank we celebrated International Women’s Day by talking about iconic women throughout history and sharing stories about the women in our lives who helped us become the people we are today. We all gave heartfelt thanks for our mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, daughters and friends and it was so heart-warming to see our residents remember them with such love

The Men's Shed

Laurel Bank were delighted to receive a planter made by ‘The Men’s Shed’, a charity that brings isolated men together with practical projects such as this, and in collaboration with Appletree Nursery, who painted the home some apples which we will use to decorate when the weather picks up.  We wish to say a special thank you also to local florist of the ‘The Hanging Basket’ John and we look forwarding to planting our bulbs and seeing the early signs of Spring appear after the recent cold snap.
