Activities at Iddenshall Hall Care Home

Activities here at Iddenshall Hall are an integral part of every day life for each of our residents. We strive to include as many of our residents as possible with the activities schedule. Our Schedule is released monthly and includes activities such as poetry afternoons, indoor games, Bingo, flower arranging, pamper days, quizzes, exercises, various musicians and entertainers, Pat Dog Visits, Music Therapy, discussion groups and trips out in our minibus to local places of interest and further afield to see the Blackpool Lights or to Knowsley Safari Park.

We are constantly asking the people who live in our home which events they would like to see taking place and we endeavor to fulfill these requests. Our aim is to provide a varied and packed schedule which allows for a vast array of skill bases and capabilities. We are in constant contact with local groups and businesses, the local Beaver Scout group are always happy to pay a visit to our home, helping with the garden or coming at Christmas to sing carols for us. We also have a small group of volunteers to help us, including pupils from our local 6th form College who visit once a week.

All the above helps ensure the lives of our Residents are fun and fulfilled.

Burns capers

Residents at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston view enjoyed a day of capers as they remembered the life and works of Robert Burns’ at their Burns Night celebrations!

Staff and residents at the home were involved in a number of activities including learning the art of Scottish Country Dancing, reciting Burns’ poetry, whilst enjoying some Whisky treats, Scottish Tablet, Shortbread and Edinburgh Rock!  From the poems read residents most liked “A red, red rose” , and they also enjoyed taking a virtual tour of some of Scotland’s most famous landscapes before enjoying the music of Scottish musician, Julie Fowles a renowned Scottish folk singer.  Everyone had a wonderful day!

Birthday Celebrations

We celebrated the birthday of one of our most active residents, and although it is not a special 90th or 100th birthday, we pleased her with pleasure.

Thelma was born in Newcastle on January 20, 89 years ago. She is a very sociable and participatory person.

She made her own birthday invitation to share with the others and also ordered a strawberry cake, eaten at tea time.

Birthday celebrations

Everyone at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View would like to wish resident, Thelma, a very happy birthday!

With specially designed invitations by the birthday girl herself, residents and staff were invited to join her to celebrate over a slice of home-made cake in the homes lounge, where everyone gave her a rousing chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ before settling back to enjoy some of her favourite songs.

Thelma was delighted to be surrounded with cake, cards and presents from loved ones and staff pampered Thelma throughout the day with fun and laughter to ensure that the birthday girl had a wonderful day.

Home embraces flower power

Residents at Iddenshall Hall and Beeston View celebrated International Flower Day which took place on 21st January.

International Flower Day promotes the psychological boost that flowers can give to people. From growing and nurturing plants and flowers, to gifting flowers to show love and appreciation, and sometimes just the simple act of admiring their beauty – flowers have the power to make someone’s day.

Residents took part in flower-based activities throughout the day including a flower arranging competition, reminiscing about their gardens and flowers in the home’s garden, a flower quiz which everyone really enjoyed.  Their collective knowledge about flowers gained from years of gardening experience was very impressive.

Residents get creative

Residents of Beeston View really enjoyed making their individual personalised bookmarks for the New Year, whilst talking about their own personal hopes and wishes for 2021. The activity was both creative and thought provoking and there was also lots of fun, laughter and chat!  Arts and crafts is a popular activity for the home as Residents enjoy the sensory experience of the many different colours, textures and paper

Residents create floral displays

Residents of Beeston View recently enjoyed a ‘blooming’ afternoon as they created a selection of floral displays for the homes communal areas.  The beautiful flowers fill the room with a wonderful scent.

The residents used their creative flair to create wonderful displays to decorate the communal areas of the home for all to see.  It was a colourful session and conversation flowed as they talked about their favourite plants and flowers.
