Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Ice-creams at Newhaven

Ice-creams at Newhaven

We made the most of the last sunshine and headed to Newhaven for ice-cream on the beach and to make use of the new disabled access ramp which goes down the beach.

The sun shone as we watched the boats, ferry’s and water skies as well as the brave visitors taking a dip in the cold sea

Sunflower Competition

Sunflower Competition

As a follow on from our summer fete we had a competition between, staff residents and visitors to grow the tallest sunflower. Huge congratulations to carer Liz who’s sunflower grew so tall we were unable to measure it.

Evening at the Races

We were lucky to be presented with some tickets to the Lingfield races by a resident's family member. We had a great evening socialising with other members of the community, placing our bets and enjoying chips, and a glass of fizz right next to the race track.

Unfortunately we didn’t have any winners, but had a great time none the less.

Summer Fete , Summer Fete

Summer Fete

We opened our doors to friends, families and the local community to celebrate our summer fete. We had stalls from external providers so a little shopping could be done, local mouth painter Barry West was here doing demonstrations and selling his paintings.

We also had the birds from 1066 falconry for displaying and holding which was a real hit for young and old. Residents performed a dance they had been practicing for weeks. We had a big prize raffle with vouchers for various local attractions, tombola’s, face painting, hook a duck and plenty of food and drink.

National Cupcake Day

We held a cupcake bake off and invited residents, families and staff to wow us with their best creations. We were honoured to have town councillor Chris Macve as part of the judging and prizing teams.

Bluebell Railway

As a father’s day treat, residents were invited to join us on a trip to the Bluebell railway. We spent the afternoon looking at trains, getting involved with the interactive activities and enjoying tea and cake in the station's café. Some family members joined us to make the occasion extra special.
