Activities at Hurstwood View Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Everson

Activities Coordinator & Speak Up Champion

I’m Lisa, Activities Coordinator here at Hurstwood View.

I’ve been working at Hurstwood View in varying departments since 2017, shortly after the birth of my second child. With a strong background in Marketing, events, and community engagement - Activities is a great fit for me! I love arranging events and making a difference to our residents’ day.  I’ve never danced so much since working here, no day is ever the same, and we really do have so much fun!

Happy Birthday to Us!

We recently celebrated our 6th birthday! The café area was packed and a great time was had by all! The kitchen team put on a delicious spread and there was none left by the end.

We were delighted to have the lovely Tania Rodd entertain us and we all sang and dance along to her wonderful music. We cannot wait for next year!

Flower Power

Flower Power

We were gifted with some gorgeous flowers and spent the morning making some beautiful displays for the table in our café. We spent 2 hours sorting them out to make sure they looked perfect!

Raystede Animal Rescue

Raystede Animal Rescue

We went to Raystede Animal Rescue Centre for the afternoon. The weather was glorious and we got the chance to stroke donkeys and feed the ducks, geese and chickens! We admired the tortoises, horses and rabbits. We also saw some adorable cats and dogs. We are looking forward to going back when the weather gets nice again!

Feeding the Wildlife

Feeding the Wildlife

We made fat balls to feed the local birds during the winter months. We melted lard and mixed in peanuts and bird seeds together, then spooned it into plastic cups. When the mixture is set, we will cut away the cups and hang the fat balls for the birds. We’re going to have some very happy birds around Hurstwood View!

Indoor Garden Party

We hosted a garden party recently, which ended up being in our café area, as it was a bit too cold outside. We had a lovely buffet-style dinner, and there was plenty of beer and Pimm's to go around.

We were also joined by the lovely Phillip Robbins, who was performing here for the first time. We will definitely be having him back, as he was wonderful! Some of us even got up to have a boogie!

Chasley Trust

Chasley Trust

We got invited to Chasley Trust to view one of Eastbourne’s biggest days! We went to the air show and took 6 gentleman out to see the aeroplanes, but unfortunately, due the wonderful British weather, it was horribly cloudy and pouring with rain. The planes were delayed and postponed until 4:00 p.m., but we had to go back just before they were due to start.

We stayed at Chasley and had a gorgeous ploughman’s lunch, a glass of wine, juice and tea and coffee, and played a fun game of bingo – and we even won some prizes! It was not the day we expected, but fun and laughter was had by all.
