Activities at Hilderstone Hall Care Home

Our activities team are, first and foremost, devoted to each and every resident in the home, and strive to ensure that their interests, hobbies, capabilities and individual requests are met to the highest standard. This could include one-to-one chats, hand massages, reading, music therapy, flower arranging, movement to music, arts & crafts, gardening and baking. We also have regular fun, adventurous and stimulating trips, where we encourage families and loved ones to join us. We have close links with the Alzheimer's Society, the local primary school, and Trinity Skills who come to sing with residents. All the staff at Hilderstone Hall participate in activities with residents, offering encouragement, stimulation and interaction for everyone involved, providing the most fulfilling experience possible.

Open Day

Once again, our open day was a huge success and Hilderstone Hall had lots of visitors join us for the event. As it was the Queen’s birthday, we thought it was only fitting that we invited the Duke himself to join in with the fun (scarecrow style). After having some traditional fish & chips, which was followed by cream scones, we enjoyed dancing along to live entertainment. It was a great day indeed!

The County Show

We had a marquee stall at the Staffordshire County Show on 30th & 31st May. We gave out cakes with the Barchester logo on that were made by our very own catering team. We also handed out leaflets and information about the Barchester Foundation, which we raised £200 for by selling raffle tickets.

We also gave out invites to our open day on the 9th of June. We walked, talked and promoted the home in every way possible and a great 2 days was had by all involved, including Violet Kotu, who were wellington boots for the first time ever.

Seaside Inside

Seaside Inside

As we sat and chatted one afternoon, one of the beautiful ladies said she would love to be at the seaside on this particular day, as it was her late brother's birthday and they always used to go to the seaside on his birthday.

Unfortunately, it was raining heavy and late into the afternoon when this idea came about, so we decided to bring the seaside indoors for her. Hopefully, she could remember those past times with her brother. It really brought a smile to her face and everyone had a good laugh.

Royal Wedding Celebrations

Yet again, Hilderstone Hall had an amazing garden party in honour of the royal wedding celebrations. Residents, families, friends and staff all wore their very best outfits and fascinators. We all enjoyed a lovely 4-course roast beef lunch, followed by singing and dancing in the gardens, along with fruit cake and, of course, the very special wedding cake that our Head Chef, Jake, made. We finished off the day with some Prosecco and a toast to the royal couple.

Animal House

We at Hilderstone Hall had a fantastic afternoon with the animals that came to visit us. Cynthia said she had never seen a skunk up close, so was thrilled to be able to see Billy. Sally the hedgehog also got a lot of love from Cynthia and Audrey. Margaret wasn’t sure about the Owl, as she thought it wanted to share her biscuit, but enjoyed looking at him. Edna had great fun and loved stroking the furry guinea pig.

Hawaiian Day

We at Hilderstone Hall celebrated Hawaiian Day in style. The ladies, gentlemen, family members and staff all helped to prepare for the day by creating decorations, decorating cakes and dressing up in true Hawaiian costumes.

We started our party by having a fabulous lunch of pitta, chunky wedges and fries, along with pasta and rise dishes, followed by fresh fruit kebabs with ice cream and homemade lollies. We then danced the afternoon away with our entertainer, Geoff. Ann, Sylvia and Audrey were all up dancing, showing us how it should be done.

It was also our General Manager's birthday, so Sue, our Head Chef, made an amazing birthday cake to present to her whilst we all sang 'Happy birthday'.
