Activities at Hempton Field Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Nina Mullerworth

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Nina and I have had the privilege of working at Hempton Field in my role as Activities Coordinator for over 15 years and I am looking forward to many more! I have enjoyed continually developing in the role with a variety of training courses, including a Level 2 NAPA and Aromatherapy Massage.

I love interacting with the residents and organising a varied programme of activities with a person-centred approach based on Barchester's Life Enrichment Programme of enhancing the wellbeing of mind, body and soul.  This includes ensuring residents can continue to enjoy hobbies, life experiences and keep active through exercise and music.  We are involved with local clubs and welcome in members of the community as well as a variety of outings in the minibus - these are always very popular!

Whole-Home Vaccinations

Our staff and residents were delighted to receive their first dose of the newly approved and supplied; AstraZeneca vaccine as part of a whole-home approach to vaccination.

Dr Martin Thornton and nurse Christine from Unity Health - Chinnor Surgery, kindly set up their mobile clinic within the home today 11th January, 2021, to provide all residents and staff with the best protection against COVID-19, which has filled the home with New Year joy and lifted everyone’s spirits after what has been a very challenging year for everyone.

Home Manager, Sharon Thursby said: “Our teams have been magnificent in how they have risen to every challenge during this pandemic and we are proud to play our part in this next phase to ensure the most vulnerable are protected. Being able to offer our residents and staff this protection is an honour a step in the right direction to getting back to normal.”

Resident Audrey Walsham was one of the first to receive the vaccine, she said: “I’m very pleased to have the vaccine, the doctor and nurse were very nice, and explained everything clearly. It was very well organised.” Everyone agreed; we’re so happy to receive the vaccine, it was a very exciting day all round.

Morning Tea Church Service

Our resident’s took morning tea and enjoyed participating in the fortnightly bible club provided via zoom, and supported by members of the Chinnor Community Church

The service really helps maintain our spiritual wellbeing throughout 2020, our residents have adapted to the 'new normal' virtual connections so well.

National Shortbread Day

We all enjoy a shortbread biscuit with our afternoon tea and with today (6th January) being National Shortbread Day we had fun making our own! When Nina, our Activities Coordinator mentioned the national day to Margaret, she asked if she could make some of her legendary scones. Just look at these beauties – they smelt and tasted delicious. Thank you Margaret, we’ll definitely be asking you to make these again.

Armchair Exercises

This is our lovely Margaret enjoying our fun exercises! Margaret has just recently joined our Hempton Field family and was very keen to join our exercise groups.

Christingle Service and Candles

Our residents really enjoyed the St Andrews Church, Chinnor Christingle service. Prior to the service, our activities team downloaded a helpful guide from the St Andrews website which gave step-by-step instruction on how to make individual Christingle candles which provided them with a full history behind the ‘meaning of giving’ – so beautiful.
