Activities at Elm Bank Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Tina Prosho

Activities Lead

Hello my name is Tina and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Elm Bank Care Home.

I joined Elm Bank in May 2023 as a Team Leader soon becoming the Head of Care before moving to the role of Activities Coordinator and leading the team in January 2024. My passion is to provide life enriching activities that enhance the lives of our residents.

By providing entertainment that is not only stimulating but person-centred. Our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, visits to various locations outside the home of interest, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities. We are a pet friendly home and fully support the benefits animal therapy can bring to the lives of our residents and welcome animals of all kinds to the home on a regular basis.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining Elm Bank that will make for a richer activities program to be developed. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Life at Elm Bank Care Home

Singalong with Pytchley C of E Primary School

We have been very busy at Elm Bank as residents have been practising a song chosen for us by a local primary school. They chose 'Let it Go' from the Disney film Frozen. In return residents chose twoo of their favourite songs for the children to learn - 'Daisy, Daisy' and 'You Are My Sunshine.' We each performed our songs via Zoom and the children were so excited to see our residents' faces. Residents were amazed and impressed by how well the children sang the songs we chose for the school. There were lots of happy tears and smiles all around.

Making beautiful Christmas baubles

Residents at Elm Bank have started making Christmas decorations, including baubles for our trees. Everyone has made their own baubles, reflecting their own personality and creativity, to hang on the trees in their community within the home.

Halloween fun

Thank you to everyone who supported our Pumpkin and picture display and competition. We had donations from Elm Bank staff, members of the community and local companies. Special thanks to Isaac, aged 4, from Corby, resident John’s family, resident Ken’s son Chris, resident Margret’s great- granddaughter, Simon Cox and family for their carved scary pumpkins, and Rebecca from Milton Keynes for her picture of Jack the skeleton which won a £10 amazon voucher. Elm Bank staff and residents enjoyed dressing up as devils, angels and witches. During Halloween week we enjoyed some spooky crafts, a party and games including ghoulish tin can alley. We baked Halloween shortbread and cupcakes and had an amazing day.

Fireworks at Elm Bank

The Elm Bank team made sure residents enjoyed some fireworks on Bonfire Night. The display was visible across Kettering and was lovely to see above Elm Bank's rooftops. We all enjoyed hot chocolate and treats too.

Pumpkin carving for our big display

At Elm Bank care home we are beginning our Halloween activities already, starting with a (slightly) scary film and ghoulish treats this week. We are also carving many pumpkins donated by local people and organisations for display outside our home, to provide a spooky atmosphere for residents, staff and the whole local community.

Flowers from the Co-op

At Elm Bank we feel it is important to keep busy and explore a variety of hobbies. We are always on the lookout for new intellectual and creative learning opportunities for residents. We were recently kindly donated gift vouchers from our local branch of Co-Operative Food, on London Road in Kettering. We used this donation to purchase some beautiful flowers for our monthly flower arranging class. Thank you Co-op!
