Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

New activities for a New Year

It’s a brand new year and that means a whole new range of activities for the Denmead Grange residents, you don’t need to make New Year’s resolutions when you have Lloyd our activities coordinator to keep you busy.

Yesterday Lloyd and the residents got busy with an afternoon of arts and crafts including God’s Eye Wool Crafting and Dot Painting. Everyone enjoyed themselves and produced some beautiful art and today we will be colouring with Bieber the wonder dog and there will be a Blankety Blank Gameshow later today

Denmead Grange beat over 70 care homes in the South to win the Christmas Quiz ,

Denmead Grange takes home the WIN!

We’ve always known that our residents and staff were full of knowledge and today we proved it by coming first in the Southern Region Christmas Quiz. Resident's and staff gathered in the lounge to take part and we are proud to announce that out of over 70 homes  we took home the gold!!

Our residents are extremely proud of our achievements especially as in the quiz earlier this year we came second - it just goes to show that you’re never too old to learn something new and improve your general knowledge

A lot of fun and excitement was had by all and we look forward to receiving our trophy and prizes soon.

CHRISTMAS AT DENMEAD GRANGE

This year the staff and residents had a wonderful time when Father Christmas visited to hand out presents and stayed for a delicious 3 course meal. This was followed by the Queens Christmas Speech and a Christmas film and activities.

Everyone was happy to see Father Christmas and loved their day, it was great to see all the residents joining in on the fun and we are all looking forward to our next celebration on New Year’s Eve.

FESTIVE FLORAL FUN FROM OUR DESIGN TEAM AT DENMEAD GRANGE

Who needs interior designers when your residents are as talented as those at Denmead Grange, today we have been adding to our Christmas decorations making Christmas flower arrangements for our dining room tables and in our corridors.

With an eye for colour and the excitement of Christmas all around the residents have produced some beautiful decorations to lighten the mood for everyone, you can’t have too much tinsel and glitter - but tinsel and glitter looks even better when you add beautiful fresh flowers.

Whilst keeping everyone safe, with many more festive activities planned we are determined to have fun this Christmas no matter what.  Our varied life enrichment program run by Lloyd our activities coordinator keeps residents active, providing a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to Ithe individual residents’ interests and abilities.

Baking up a storm!

Who needs the Great British Bake off when you have a home full of Masterchefs all ready to take over the kitchen

Over the weekend Denmead Grange Residents decided to give the chef a break and make some mince pies themselves. Never ones to just sit still the residents decided it was time to make some tasty treats and get baking.

The mince pies turned out well and were really tasty and not a crumb was left.

National Elf Day

Alongside our Christmas preparations staff and residents have taken the time to have a bit of fun and enjoyed the Alzheimer’s Society Elf Day at Denmead Grange. We couldn’t quite find a shelf big enough for them so kept them busy around the home instead.

We’ve had a Christmas coffee morning with a Christmas Quiz and bingo with several winners followed by the film Elf – just look at Cathy and some of our elf’s enjoying themselves.
