Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

? A Blooming Afternoon ?

Every month, our residents love to make the home blossom with colour and floral fragrance. Lloyd, our Head of Life Enrichment, gathered a selection of gorgeous flowers from local sources. Residents of Denmead Grange have an opportunity to create an arrangement in the morning and afternoon!

We created 20 different arrangements for the home; now our dining rooms, living areas, reception, bistro and residents rooms are blooming with colour! Even a little flower could put a smile on someone face!

EXERCISING OUR BRAINS

It’s lovely to see so many of the residents sitting together with Lloyd our activities coordinator enjoying book club, all of them thoroughly engrossed in the current novel -  The Great Cornish Getaway - any suggestions for what they could read next would be very welcome.

CINDERS COMES TO DENMEAD GRANGE

The residents of Denmead Grange were very excited when the pantomime belatedly came to them. Having to forgo our trip to the theatre before Christmas due to the risk of Covid we felt very honoured that Tickled Pink decided to bring the pantomime to us, everyone gathered together in the bistro where the performers put on an excellent show.  Our residents said it really gave them all a good laugh especially when the Ugly Sisters couldn’t work out what was behind them and Prince Charming lived up to his name and charmed them all.

CELEBRATING ALL THINGS MEXICAN

Our Around the World Days have bought us to Mexico! We celebrated the day with a Mexican Feista Lunch, with food prepared by Chef Jackson. The dining room was decked out with brightly coloured streamers, table runners, napkins and plates! The Mexican music was running through the home, the atmosphere was electric and Mary got her maracas out!

SPRING IS IN THE AIR

To continue the celebration of International Flower day our residents decided to paint flower pots ready for spring planting, many of our residents enjoy gardening and love that they had the opportunity to personalise their own pots which they will have outside in the garden by their own rooms
