Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

Our residents enjoyed the Hot Cross Bun tasting session, they couldn't believe the different flavors of bun there could be (the ultimate favorite was the Bramley Apple Bun).

Happy Birthday Ruth

Happy birthday Ruth! It was lovely to be able to help Ruth celebrate her birthday outside in the fresh air. Ruth had a wonderful time and she had a celebratory glass of prosecco and a cake made by our chef Jackson and another cake brought in by her family.

Ruth is an avid knitter and for her birthday amongst her other presents she wanted something to help her continue with her hobby so we got her some wool and other knitting bits and pieces, she also got lots of flowers, cards and other presents from her family.

The birthday girl, is absolutely delighted with her birthday celebrations, here's to many more of them!

LADIES DAY AND THE GRAND NATIONAL 2022

At Denmead Grange, we’ve enjoyed many grand National activities over the past 2 days! We celebrated ladies day, dressing in our best frocks with hats to match, sipping Prosecco with lunch! Residents enjoyed the thrill of the Horse Racing Game; a fun, thrilling afternoon full of betting and prizes!

The whole home picked out a horse for the big race today! Hoping to come 1st, 2nd or 3rd! We also had a booby prize for the last place!

Did you win on the Grand National this year and how did you celebrate the day?

DENMEAD GRANGE RAISE £165 FOR DENMEAD LUNCH CLUB

Denmead Grange residents, staff and family held a raffle to raise funds for the lunch club. The raffle was a roaring success with many great prizes donated.

Cathy was very proud today to present the funds raised to the hard working staff and volunteers who give up so much of their time to the local community.

Suzie from the club said the money will help them to put on a celebration for the Queen’s jubilee in June.

The lunch club provides a valuable service in the village and everyone at Denmead Grange feels extremely happy to be able to help.

REAL BREAD WEEK

This month our resident's celebrated Real Bread Week with a Bread Making Session! Our residents came together in their dining areas to make beautiful loafs from scratch! Our Head of Life Enrichment, Lloyd, set up 4 different recipes and asked each pair to pick a random piece of paper with a type of bread on. They then dived into the bread making process and you could tell that they had experience!

Each loaf was we made was unique and flavored; Multigrain loaf topped with sunflower seeds, a cheddar and sundried tomato loaf, a traditional crusty white and a garlic and rosemary focaccia!

The flavors were impeccable, and went well with the Leek and Potato soup on the menu that evening!

CELEBRATING ALL THINGS FRENCH

This month as part of our round the world tour we are celebrating all things French.

Having decorated the dining rooms and having donned his beret and stripy top, Lloyd our Head of Life Enrichment arranged a painting session where our residents painted pictures of the Eiffel Tower to hang on their walls.

We also had an amazing lunch that included French Onion Soup, followed by Beef Bourguignon, Cod Veronique or Vegetable En Croute for mains.

After the painting session Lloyd also handed out chocolates from the hamper we won in the Barchester Christmas Quiz. To find out more about Denmead Grange please call us on 02392 263470
