Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

The Summer Fete was a roaring success

Wow over £700 raised at our summer fete! We are so pleased that the local community came together to support our summer fete and raise money for local charities including the local Age Concern. We couldn’t have asked for a better day and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who made it possible including the families and friends of staff and residents plus our stall holders, We would also like to say thank you to our wonderful family who looked after our own stalls for us enabling us to be available for anyone who needed a hand. It was so busy that we didn't even take many photographs after everyone had set up!

Summer fun in the Shade

In this weather it’s really important to keep our residents cool and hydrated, luckily at Denmead Grange we are surrounded by trees that give us shade when we need it, so avoiding the hottest part of the day we took the residents outside for a spot of bowling there was plenty of iced drinks and lollies to go around and Mavis was the undisputed winner!

We all love a good sing song

At Denmead Grange we love music and especially the group Singers and Stringers who have entertained us several times and it was lovely to have them back, keeping a safe distance from our residents and staff they put on an incredible performance which was enjoyed by everyone

Game Set and Match

We had so much fun celebrating Wimbledon this week. Our residents chose the traditional route, enjoying delicious English Strawberries and Fresh Cream with a glass of Prosecco whilst cheering on Djokovic and Sinner!
Our residents absolutely love the Wimbledon event, some are avidly watching every single game! There was a very competitive atmosphere in the air as, at the residents request staff (who also had lots of fun) competed to see who had the best serve! Take a look through the wonderful photos and see if you can guess who won!

International Day of the Joke

Life at Denmead Grange is always full of laughter and fun and to celebrate International Joke Day resident's gathered in the lounge where our Head of Life Enrichment, Lloyd, hosted Friday's comedy afternoon. we asked staff, residents and the community for their favorite jokes, to be judged at the event and the best joker is definitely Fred's son Nick! Thank you everyone for your wonderful jokes, our residents absolutely loved them!

During the afternoon we also watched sketches and skits from classic comedians including Morecombe and Wise, The Two Ronnies, The Vicar of Dibley and Only Fools and Horses. As you can see by the photos, the residents were cackling with laughter!

£150 raised for Alzheimer's Society

Last month during Dementia week we held a coffee morning in aid of Alzheimer’s society, we had some amazing cakes made by our chefs and were also donated some incredibly tasty cakes too.

The coffee morning was a great success raising just over £150 and was enjoyed by everyone that attended and today we were pleased to present the funds to Andy from the Alzheimer's Society who was over the moon with the amount raised.

Rosemary was really happy to present the cheque, and said "what a great morning it was, we must do another one again soon".
