The Fernes Care Home in Fareham

This beautiful purpose-built home provides high-quality residential care to older people, including those living with dementia. Our 24-hour care is provided in a warm, welcoming environment, with delicious meals, daily activities, and a choice of therapeutic support. Together, our team works to stimulate residents’ minds and empower them to approach their future in a positive way.

Dementia care is provided in our dedicated Memory Lane Community. Within this community, memory boxes with small reminders and items, such as photographs, are used to help each person reminisce. Other features, such as adapted crockery and tableware, sensory gardens with low-risk walkways and activity kitchens enable people to engage in life’s everyday simple tasks and pleasures.

Essential to our homely feel is the enhanced relationship of trust we build with family, friends and residents. We are confident that you’ll find our home can meet your needs and we are always happy to discuss how we can help you or your loved one. So please feel free to call or pop in; we look forward to speaking to you!

Types of care

We always aim to deliver bespoke care to those who live at our home. Our Team

The dedicated and experienced team are passionate about providing quality care to each individual living at the home.

Sarah Davies

General Manager

Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the General Manager here at The Fernes. Welcome to our website!

I have worked within the care sector since 1991 and I am very passionate about my role and responsibilities. Right from the beginning, I knew that this was where I belonged.

My career began as a Care Assistant in a small residential home, and I worked my way up to Senior and then Deputy Manager. After spending 26 years in this one home, I decided it was time to spread my wings and was lucky enough to be offered a Deputy Manager position in a much larger residential home. It was only a matter of weeks before I was promoted to General Manager and I have devoted the last 15 months there to improving the home and leading and developing the team.

Over the years, I have completed an array of training and qualifications up to and including NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, and I continually look for ways I can improve my knowledge, skills and my own personal development.

I joined Barchester in July 2018 as the General Manager of The Fernes, and I really enjoyed getting to know the company, my home, my staff team, the residents and their families and friends.

I aim to ensure, as a team, that we continue to deliver a high standard of person-centred care to those we support, placing them at the heart of everything we do and meeting individual needs with the passion and commitment they deserve.

I am very proud of everything I have achieved, but one of my greatest accomplishments is changing my previous home's CQC rating from 'Requires Improvement' to Good in all 5 KLOE’s within 10 months of commencing my employment.

I feel honoured to have spent my entire career doing what I love the most and feel that there is nothing more rewarding than going home at the end of the day knowing you have made a difference to a person’s life.

Sophie Dryden

Activities Coordinator

I organise a variety of fun-filled activities and events for residents at The Fernes, and cultivate a home-from-home environment by involving as many loved ones as possible.

I also spend time getting to know residents on a one-to-one basis, enabling myself and my team to get a better understanding of individual likes and dislikes, so that we can make sure we are delivering activities that best suit their interests. I try to think outside the box to help residents experience new things.

I love working at The Fernes; I’ve been here since 2016 and I have worked in the care sector since 2011. I’ve gone from cleaner to carer and now to activities, so I have a lot of experience. I’m a very happy, bubbly person and have many hobbies, but my specialty is baking.

Emma Pulman

Head of Housekeeping

My previously worked as a Housekeeper at Uplands, Fareham, where I was part of a team of 5. This was a challenging role where no two days were ever the same; it was also a very rewarding role.

I started at The Fernes before the building was completed and was fully involved in setting up the housekeeping and laundry departments at The Fernes. Within two months, I was promoted to Head of Housekeeping and, together with my team, we ensure that residents are as comfortable in their new home as they can be, taking away the worry of laundry and cleaning.
