Hi, my name is Sarah and I am the General Manager here at The Fernes. Welcome to our website!
I have worked within the care sector since 1991 and I am very passionate about my role and responsibilities. Right from the beginning, I knew that this was where I belonged.
My career began as a Care Assistant in a small residential home, and I worked my way up to Senior and then Deputy Manager. After spending 26 years in this one home, I decided it was time to spread my wings and was lucky enough to be offered a Deputy Manager position in a much larger residential home. It was only a matter of weeks before I was promoted to General Manager and I have devoted the last 15 months there to improving the home and leading and developing the team.
Over the years, I have completed an array of training and qualifications up to and including NVQ Level 4 in Health and Social Care, and I continually look for ways I can improve my knowledge, skills and my own personal development.
I joined Barchester in July 2018 as the General Manager of The Fernes, and I really enjoyed getting to know the company, my home, my staff team, the residents and their families and friends.
I aim to ensure, as a team, that we continue to deliver a high standard of person-centred care to those we support, placing them at the heart of everything we do and meeting individual needs with the passion and commitment they deserve.
I am very proud of everything I have achieved, but one of my greatest accomplishments is changing my previous home's CQC rating from 'Requires Improvement' to Good in all 5 KLOE’s within 10 months of commencing my employment.
I feel honoured to have spent my entire career doing what I love the most and feel that there is nothing more rewarding than going home at the end of the day knowing you have made a difference to a person’s life.
