Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

Celebrating the Royal Jubilee

Denmead Grange celebrated the Jubilee in style, we put out all the decorations the residents had made in the weeks preceding the Jubilee and we sat outside and had a fantastic meal with our residents and their families.

Entertainment was provided by the singer Kim G and our resident Dave who got up and sang too, everyone enjoyed themselves singing along to the songs and Fred got up and danced with Abby our general manager.

Our resident Tony said “it was so lovely to be outside with our families to celebrate such a wonderful occasion and see everyone joining in and having fun”

Jubilee flower arranging competition - the results are in

The residents really enjoyed our flower arrangement competition, it was a close run competition with Carol coming first, closely followed in second place by Ann and Cathy in 3rd.

Sheryl who is an experienced florist based in Fareham, judged the competition and said "it was a difficult decision as the arrangements were all so good and there were just a couple of points between the winner and the rest of the entrants" Carol was over the moon to win and said "I can't believe it, I never win anything"

A fun day was had by all

What a fun day we all had.

Our residents had an amazing time travelling in our minibus to Stansted Park, where they explored the grounds, shop and restaurant

They were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and we partook in some well-deserved retail therapy and enjoyed the tasty food on offer.

We all had a fantastic time and our resident Cathy said she had forgotten just how beautiful Stansted Park is and she really enjoyed being out with her fellow residents.

If you would like to come with us on our next adventure, please contact us directly on 02392 263470 or go to our reception to sign up!

International Nurses Day

On Thursday 12th May to celebrate International Nurses Day, our residents came together and made a gorgeous hamper to gift our local nurses who visit the home daily.  We also took delicious cupcakes out to our local hospitals and hospice services

Residents at Denmead Grange Care Home put there thinking caps on to compose a list of products that our nurses would enjoy. They wanted to give them something to take home to appreciate and to treat themselves with; whether that was a Lavender Bath Bomb for a relaxing bath, a glass of wine or a luxurious candle to enjoy while having their lavender bath

Our aim was to show our appreciation for the hard work the nurses in our area do, this was portrayed through hand written hearts from the residents on the hamper box. Kind words of support were written and placed on the box for nurses to read and treasure forever.

We would again, love to thank all nurses for your passion for our residents health, it really is appreciated every day. Your compassion, optimism and kindness do not go unnoticed.... Happy International Nurses Day!

Employee of the month

This month our residents voted Lloyd our Head of Life Enrichment employee of the month for April, Cathy our resident that assists Lloyd with home activities said: Nothing is too much trouble for Lloyd, he always ensures that we have plenty to do and takes time to find out what we enjoy and would like to do and allows me to get involved in the planning and preparation

Happy National Cocktail Day!

Friday 13th, unlucky for some but not our residents who enjoyed a fabulous Mixology masterclass with our Head of Life Enrichment, Lloyd. Lloyd prepared the ingredients and they chose to make 2 delicious cocktails, the Pina Colada and Fun on the Beach!

Each resident measured, poured and shook the drinks by hand, creating a delicious cocktail, they also had the choice of a non-alcoholic version if preferred.

Everybody loved the idea of creating their own and sharing their drink with friends afterwards with the sound of smooth jazz playing in the background. Take a look through our pictures, you'll see everybody enjoying themselves and saying cheers!
