Activities at Denmead Grange Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team is dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Lisa Harris

Activities Coordinator

Being Head of life Enrichment isn’t just a job, it’s a passion.

My time with the residents has and will always be an honour and pleasure.

Finding out their interests and hobbies, so I can tailor the weekly planner is such a great thing to do, as this means lots of chats over a good cuppa! But it also means that I can get to know them personally and get to understand a part of their past, so I can continue to help them experience their interests in this next phase of their lives.

A truly rewarding role, where I can be part of and contribute to something meaningful. All I hope for, is to make this journey for both the residents and their families, as restful, easy and enjoyable as possible. Then I know I’ve done my part.

Life at Denmead Grange Care Home

Wishing Well

At Denmead Grange, we have introduced a wishing well into our reception area. Here, residents can write a wish on a scroll and pop it in and Lloyd will do his very best to fulfil it.

Last week, our first wish was granted! Rosemary has asked to visit a local garden centre with a fellow resident and very good friend. Lloyd, took the pair to Stanstead House Garden Centre in Rowlands Castle. Here, they shopped around, looking at plants, homeware and fashion, treating themselves to new shoes and birthday cards. We then went for Afternoon Tea in the café.

Rosemary was thrilled with the afternoon she had, saying it was a sense of normality that she had missed dearly. Stay tuned for our next wish to be granted in the middle of August!

Easter Bonnet Competition

We had lots of fun decorating bonnets for Sunday’s Easter Bonnet Competition. Our manager, Sharon, came in to judge and choose her most favourite hat! We’ve used a wide variety of resources, such as mini chicks, mini eggs, ribbons and nests. But our residents have been knitting little chicks over the past few weeks ready for Easter. One of our residents glued hers on to the front of her bonnet, which is extremely creative!

Minibus Trip

At long-last, restrictions are allowing us to take outings to safe locations. At Denmead Grange, we are dedicated to providing our residents with a variety of fun and engaging activities and outings. We would like to share a photo of our residents first time outing to the spectacular Southsea Seafront. We are so excited to continue these wonderful outings, and our residents had a great time getting out and about at Southsea Seafront!

Ceramic Tile Painting

We’ve had a fantastic time painting ceramic tiles to use as coasters for our outdoor furniture! These bright and colourful coasters were hand painted by our residents and will feature on our garden tables to rest your teas and coffees on. Lloyd, our Life Enrichment Coordinator, was astounded by the level of artistry that the residents had, they will be a lovely feature to a bright sunny day.

Out & About Again

We have been getting out and about these past few weeks now the restrictions have eased. Our bus has carried us to Southsea Seafront, Old Portsmouth, Portsdown Hill and to the fish & chip shop so far, with many more trips planned for the coming weeks.

Our residents have really enjoyed seeing the scenery of our local places, reminiscing about times they may have spent at the seaside and talking about the views up on Portsdown Hill also.

VE Day

It’s a long way to Tipperary! We had a blast this 8th May, singing, dancing and eating lots of delicious food. Our Head Chef, Andy, prepared an amazing afternoon tea spread for lunch, which was followed by Sarah Seville, a fabulous '40s and '50s singer, who sang the hits of the war for us. We sang our hearts out that afternoon; there were lots of smiles and laughter fuelled the positive energy of the day.
