Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Harry George Crandon

Here at Crandon Springs, we wanted to share with the local community the source of our naming. After a lot of research into local landmarks, historic events and figures within Wells, we found the story of Private Harry George Crandon.

Harry George Crandon was born in Wells, on the 9th of February 1874. At the age of 27, Crandon was a private in the 18th Royal Hussar during the Second Boer War, the following took place which led to him receiving a Victoria Cross.

"On the 4th July, 1901, at Springbok Laagte, Privates Berry and Crandon were scouting towards a kopje when the Boers suddenly opened fire on them at a range of 100 yards. Private Berry's horse fell and became disabled, and he was himself shot in the right hand and left shoulder. Private Crandon at once rode back under a heavy fire to his assistance, gave up his horse to the wounded man to enable him to reach shelter, and followed him on foot, having to run for 1,100 yards, all the time under fire."

We are extremely proud of the heritage of our naming, we have dedicated a plaque in our reception to the heroic act faced by Harry George Crandon.

Donation to Wells First Responders

Crandon Springs' have donated some Easter Eggs and chocolate treats for the Friends Of The Wells First Response Team. The Friends are currently organising an Easter Hamper to raise awareness and funding. If you can give anything, big or small they would be so grateful. The outstanding work the team everyday is admirable.

Couples at Crandon Springs

Our dearest days at Crandon Springs are when families and residents visit to choose their future rooms. Today we have had a couple reserve their two bedrooms side by side so they can share one bedroom together with twin or a double bed and provide one bedroom as a private lounge and dining room. We can accommodate couples on both our residential and memory lane floor. Being able to choose which room you would like to live in is another element of independence and choice that we are so passionate about encouraging here at Crandon Springs. We are spoilt for choice with our rooms and the views of either the garden or Wells Tennis and Football club.

Festive Card Competition

Crandon Springs teamed up with Rockers and Rollers Day Nursery and local supermarkets to host a Christmas Card competition for the local children over the festive break. Thankyou for all entries. The winner is Thomas aged 4 who will receive a £20 gift card. Our runner up is Ruadhan aged 5 who will receive a £10 gift card too. Congratulations all.
