Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

Coronation history

Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.

During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.

Pet therapy

After his first visit a few weeks ago we were delighted that George wanted to come back to say hello to our ladies and gents. George was very happy to get cuddles and treats of staff, families and residents, he really was a very happy chappy.

Elvis will be back off his holidays next week, we are very fortunate to have two dogs visiting us through the Pets As Therapy Scheme, Elvis and George bring so much joy to the dog lovers at Cheshire Grange.

Crowning glory

When one of our Memory Lane Senior Carers Lisa, asked if we could help her son Fred out with a Coronation Project, we were keen to get our residents involved. Fred is a pupil at Woolston Community Primary School and as part of their Coronation celebrations they were having a Coronation Crown Competition.

Hitting all the right notes

Residents and staff from Cheshire Grange Care Home in Lymm were in for a treat with a visit to The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall to enjoy an afternoon concert ‘By The Sea’ The concert, performed by the very talented members of the Philharmonic Orchestra, was themed around an ocean journey leaving Liverpool and returning home again, pieces included ‘Storm’ from Britten’s Four Sea Interludes,  Mendelssohn Fingal’s Cave along with more contemporary pieces.

The concert was created especially for people living with dementia to enjoy with their friends, family and carers, being performed in The Music Room with an ambience fitting to the audience’s needs.

Residents and staff had a wonderful time at the concert, it was truly moving to see the residents so immersed in the music, this was very special, seeing our Memory Lane residents having such a wonderful time doing something that so many of us do without a second thought.

'Oh My Word!'

To celebrate National Scrabble Day we decided to do something a little different, rather than playing scrabble. We used scrabble tiles to create word pictures, using the residents name as a starting point we then talked about interests, personality traits and looked how they could fit around the name. It was great fun and triggered many interesting conversations on all communities and at the end of it the residents have a very unique and individual piece of art for their rooms.

A Very Hoppy Easter

We had a very busy Easter here at Cheshire Grange with a whole host of different activities including an Easter Egg Hunt in the gardens, Easter crafts, reminiscing with residents about Easter when they were younger and of course a visit from the Easter Bunny.

Residents at Cheshire Grange enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from decorating Easter cookies to reflecting on the Easter story and what it means to them, residents enjoyed some fun Easter games too, the Rabbit Hoopla was especially popular.  Residents also tucked in to delicious Easter treats at mealtimes, including a chocolate hot cross bun pudding, a roast turkey lunch, and a delicious buffet spread, prepared by the home’s head chef Mandy.

The Easter Bunny thanked everyone for making the visit to Cheshire Grange so much fun and they enjoyed meeting all the lovely residents and their families.
