Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

Sew Amazing

We recently took two of our ladies who live on Memory Lane to a Quilting Exhibition at nearby Haydock. Jeanne, was a very talented quilter, producing some amazing work, and this was an ideal chance for her to still have a connection to a favourite hobby. Jeanne loved the trip out, admiring the amazing quilts on display especially drawn to those of vibrant colour and interesting textures.

Jeanne talked about her trip with great joy to her family and other residents, it really was a Sunshine Moment.

Children in Need

Staff at Cheshire Grange always welcome a ‘non-uniform day’, and this year’s Children in Need Appeal gave them the perfect opportunity to don bear ears, Pudsey t shirts and onesies. The residents thought this was great fun and the day was filled with smiles and laughter.

Residents Musical Requests

We were delighted to welcome John Jones, our talented accordion player, back to Cheshire Grange. He really is a firm favourite as he visits residents in their rooms, giving a personal show of their favourite requests. John can play most tunes covering a vast range of countries, from Bulgaria to Italy to Sweden, who knew you could play an Abba hit on the accordion!

A spot of early Christmas shopping

A trip to the local garden centre at High Legh, gave some of our ladies a chance to peruse the Christmas decorations and gifts that were filling the shelves. The decorations were the topic of much conversation especially the well know Christmas ornament, The Plush Rat!!!! Although, many items were admired and given a thorough inspection no purchases were made except for some rather tasty sandwiches and drinks!

Spooksville

With Halloween not too far away, we decided it would be fun to use one of our favourite arts and crafts activities to celebrate the occasion. The ladies and gents really enjoy our Spoonville Families that we create from wooden spoons so why not create Spooksville!! We always look to make our arts and crafts age appropriate but we think that Spoonville covers all generations, the residents find the actual making relatively simple but they have such a laugh whilst making the characters, and we all know that laughter is the best medicine.

Harvest thanksgiving

With the summer drawing to a close and the Autumn colours starting to show we talked to our residents about what this time of year meant to them, many talked about farmers gathering the harvest, picking apples and the church Harvest Festivals. We asked residents what they’d like to give thanks for and used our sentiment tree to create an eye catching display for all to share in the café area.
