Activities at Cheshire Grange Care Home

The activities team are constantly striving to meet the varied needs of everyone who lives in our home, offering a wide range of group and individual social events. There are regular visits from entertainers, along with craft activities, baking, games & puzzle days and pampering sessions, which fill the week. However, we can always find time for outings and just spending that little bit of special time with residents who enjoy the peace and quiet. We aim to bring the activities to the individual, whilst making it a whole home experience.

Life at Cheshire Grange Care Home

Alan on Oomph

Since our recent WOW, residents have been utilising our magnificent communal areas on a more regular basis, and one of the attractions that brings them to the lounge is Alan’s Golden Classics. We are able to access live and recorded shows from Alan, the care home singer, on our smart TVs or iPad, via a web based platform called Oomph On Demand.

Through this platform we have access to a vast array of resources, quizzes on any manner of subjects, activity booklets, exercise classes, a wide variety of music and videos all aimed to meet all our residents varying needs. Oomph is also accessible to families and friends so they can explore some of the activities with their loved ones when visiting.

However, with this treasure chest of activity at our finger tips, Alan still remains a firm favourite with our residents, especially the ladies.

I'm In The Mood For Dancing

An afternoon of song, dance and laughter for our residents came in the shape of singer Lainey, who provided the music whilst The Cheshire Grange Dancers provided the entertainment, everyone was keen to get on the floor and enjoy the music including those in wheelchairs, it really was a very special afternoon.

Knitting Memories

We talk a lot about the importance of getting to know our residents and their past hobbies, this helps us to help the resident stay connected with pastimes and interests that brought them joy, helped them relax and gave them a sense of worth, all emotions that can still be experienced when doing something that you enjoy and is important to you. During a sewing club activity one of our residents mentioned that they use to knot and design their own Arran jumpers, most impressive!!!!

The activity team got together with a member of the care team who was a knitter and the needles and wool were found, the resident asked if we could help her cast on which Roxana did for her, she then asked Roxana what stich she’d like her to do, it was decided just to keep it simple for the time being and do a plain scarf……. I’m sure in the next few months we will all be sporting individual designer Arran jumpers.

Virtual Book Club

We had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

Historic Royal Palaces

Our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Love is in the Air

We had a week filled with love at Cheshire Grange as we celebrated Valentine’s Day. There were arts and crafts sessions, making textured hearts, discussions about first loves and what is important about love, the hospitality team provided a delicious Valentines evening meal, the dining rooms were decorated, the residents thought the tables looked very sophisticated. We also had musical entertainment from Joe Cockx which got everyone dancing as well as providing some very tender moments. We can't wait to do it all again next year!
