Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

St Patrick's Day

On the 17th March it was St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of the patron saint of Ireland and all things Irish. In the morning, we got in to the spirit by making some beautiful Shamrock sun catchers and we got to enjoy some delicious Irish snacks.

In the afternoon, we took part in the green-themed quiz, accompanied by some traditional Irish music, and then followed by some very tasty Irish coffees.

Everyone had a wonderful day!

Women's Week

Over the week of the 8th to the 14th March, we decided here at Cherry Trees to celebrate a whole week of amazing women.

It started with International Women’s Day and ended with Mother’s Day. We spent the week looking at important historical women and took part in many workshops. Some of our favourites were all about indulging our glamourous side with a lip balm making workshop and a decorative scented bag for hand bags or wardrobes.

The lip balms were made from cocoa butter, coconut oil, shea butter and a bit of bee’s wax. We then added a little bit of vanilla and honey for taste and a tiny bit of lipstick for colour. We had a lot of fun looking at the ingredients and deciding what colour and flavour we wanted

The scented bags were made using gauze bag, dried flowers and rice that had been scented with essential oils and dyed with food colouring. The blue rice was lavender scented and the pink is geranium and rose. They smelt amazing and were fun to make.

The residents enjoyed both workshops and are looking forwards to more exciting workshops in the future.

World Book Day

In the morning we had some of Alcester Academy year 11 and year 12 girls join us virtually via Zoom to read us some beautiful poems from their favourite books. In the afternoon, the lovely year 2 children read parts from the book they chose and they showed off their brilliant costumes too! They all did a wonderful job and we really enjoyed listening to them.

The Magic Table

Residents have been enjoying their new Magic Table 360, provided to us by the wonderful people at Social-Ability. This is part of their 'Happiness Project', and we are very happy to be using it.

The Magic Table 360 works by projecting light on to a surface – this could be a table, floor, ceiling or even someone’s bed; as hands, arms or feet move through the light, the games that are projected begin to change and move.

Valentine's Day

In the morning, we had our normal Sunday service by the wonderful Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon, which was all about love.

After that, everyone enjoyed their lunch in the beautifully decorated dining room. Everyone also received a Valentine’s gift bag full of lovely treats.

In the afternoon, we got to watch the amazing Ben Thompson as Elvis, which was put together by the wonderful people at 'Stormz Community for Musical Arts' and 'Music Is The Best Medicine'. Everyone had an amazing time and we all joined in.

Year of the Ox

On Friday 12th February, we had a wonderful time welcoming in the Chinese New Year. We watched some amazing traditional dragon and lion dances. We also learned about the Chinese zodiac and found out what animal we were all born under. To finish, we all got lucky red envelopes wishing us a Happy Ne Year.
