Activities at Cherry Trees Care Home

Our activities team are constantly striving to mentally and physically stimulate those we support by organising group and individual social events for anyone and everyone to participate in. There are regular outings in the minibus to nearby places of interest, including the local theatre, as well as visits from Pat dogs, musicians and entertainers. We also host bingo, quiz and knitter natter afternoons that we encourage relatives and the local community to attend. Our Gentleman's Club is also open to non-residents every Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm, join us for a tipple of your choice, we have plenty of snacks and chats. For the ladies, our beauty salon provides; hairdressing and nail pampering, you too can enjoy a drink and some well-deserved 'me' time. Activities are one of the most important aspects of a care home, so it is essential that our team are dedicated to ensuring that residents are entertained, and that life at Cherry Trees is fun and active.

The Vaccine Arrives

On Saturday 16th January, the residents and staff at Cherry Trees were delighted to receive their first dose of the Oxford AstraZeneca Vaccine in the bid to protect themselves against COVID-19.

Everyone at the care home would like to say a huge thank you Dr. R. Lambert and Dr Bexfield from The Arrow Surgery in Alcester for all their fantastic work in delivering the vaccine to us and to everyone who helped and supported to achieve this.

World Religion Day

On 17th January, residents at Cherry Trees celebrated World Religion Day. The aim of World Religion Day, held on the third Sunday in January every year, is to promote inter-faith understanding and harmony.

We took this opportunity to learn about a religions we as group decided we didn't know much about and asked the wonderful people at Birmingham Buddhist Centre to help us. The fantastic Shaddakarti gave a fascinating virtual introduction talk about Buddhism which the residents really found interesting.

International Flower Day

Residents had a fantastic time on 19th January celebrating International Flower Day. Residents on our Memory Lane community had a lovely time creating a large display of flowers during a flower arranging workshop, which has been displayed where everyone can see it.

In the other community, Young at Heart, the residents decided to make individual displays to add a lovely personal touch to their rooms. Residents on both floors used so many amazing flowers, which smelt absolutely amazing and have brought a bit a spring early to the home.

Christmas at Cherry Trees

We have received such fantastic support over Christmas from the local schools and children.

During December, we received a number of gifts from the community, from mince pies to Christmas cards. Everyone here at Cherry Trees would love to say thank you, especially to Our Lady’s Primary School, Alcester, for performing some amazing carols for us and telling us about the nativity.

We also like to say thank you to Coughton C of E School for these amazing pictures and really kind & thoughtful messages written on them; and lastly to the children of St. Nicholas school for their lovely Christmas card.

Christmas Lights

On Friday 4th December, we had an amazing time with our big Christmas light switch on. It might have been a bit wet, but we were all feeling festive. The lights are amazing and the residents enjoyed them so much. If you’re in and around Alcester, come by and check them out.

After the lights were switched on, we all went inside and enjoyed a lovely cup of hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and warm mince pies.

The staff really pulled together to make this truly spectacular for the residents. Everyone dug deep and raised an amazing £300 for the Christmas tree and the lights. The activities and maintenance team and gardening volunteer really pulled out all the stops putting the lights up and helping the residents feel part of it by getting them involved in making some of the decorations.

We really are so proud and grateful to have such an amazing team and to be able to give the residents at Cherry Trees the most amazing Christmas!

Christmas Jumper Day

All the staff got involved with Christmas Jumper Day, and the residents too! Even Crumble the Christmas dog gave us a visit in his Christmas jumper to bring even more festive cheer for the day.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who wore their best woolly knit for the day. Because of you and your jumpers, we can help children all over the world.
