Activities at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Chalfont Lodge is a large care home and we have a diverse range of groups and events to ensure that everyone feels welcome and included. In the Lifestyle team we work hard to create a sense of community and ensure there is always someone to talk to and something to do.

Our residents help us to plan the monthly lifestyle programme, making sure that everyone has something they like, enabling people to keep up with life long hobbies or pick up new ones. We have long term projects like our summer parties, car shows, BBQs, craft fairs, Christmas shows to mention a few and residents can be as involved as they would like in all stages of the planning or just come along and enjoy on the day.

We love going out on trips, to lunch, shopping or to socialise with other local groups, we also have many people who come into visit us with church services, music, talks and support for our bigger events.

We have a fantastic team of staff and every department is involved in making sure our residents get the most out of living here. We have a brilliant music therapist who works her magic 3 days a week, running group and individual sessions. Our Physiotherapy team keep everyone fit and active, working with us to make sure everyone has access to sports and team games.

We have a full programme groups, events and clubs but none of it would be possible without our residents and their families, we all work together to make this a home from home and to keep laughter and friendship at the heart of what we do.

Hello, I’m Alex the Activities Lead at Chalfont Lodge, working with me is Louise Doyle. I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 8 years now. I originally started off as a volunteer and fell in love with the residents, families and staff. Since then, I've been an Activity assist, Activity Coordinator and now the head of the department! Life at Chalfont Lodge Care Home

Performances from Two Local Schools

Performances from Two Local Schools

Chalfont St Peter Academy visited us first on Monday 12th December, bringing the home to life with a selection of songs from their Christmas performance of Treasure Island. Their performance within the home was overseen by their Headteacher, Mrs Underwood, who explained a bit about the children's production and filled us in with the backstory between each song.

Although the children were not able to be in costume on the day, they quickly got into character and performed with vigour and passion. Their singing was extraordinary and they filled the room with energy.

Following the performance, the children spent some time chatting to the residents and, to their surprise, were greeted by our General Manager, Emerson Kupfuwa, and Father Christmas, who gave each of the children a bag of gifts to thank them for their time.

Following the performance from Chalfont St Peter Academy, we were also treated to a special visit by some of the girls from Beaconsfield High School on Thursday 15th December; around 30 of the 1000 pupils were able to attend. Those who visited us took it in turns to sing a variety of Christmas carols to people sitting in our main lounge, whilst the remainder of the girls visited some of our communities to hand personalised gift boxes to each resident.

Having visited one community, the girls would swap, and those who had given presents would come and sing, allowing the other girls the joy of handing out the boxes.

One resident was due to have her 90th birthday over the weekend, so the girls requested to go and sing some carols in her room along with a very special rendition of 'Happy Birthday.'

Each box given out had been put together by 3 or 4 of the girls from the school who all signed the cards. So much thought was put into each box, and some of the residents were moved to tears by the generosity and thoughtfulness of the girls.

From the bottom of our hearts, we cannot thank both of these schools enough for their generosity and selflessness in coming to see us in the home, and we hope to be able to repay them in some way in the future.

Bucks Voices

Bucks Voices

We had Bucks Voices, a local male voice choir, visit us to perform some well-known classic songs, such as those sung originally by crooners, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. They also performed a variety of Christmas carols in a harmonic and unified way and looked rather dapper in their red shirts and gold ties. These gents were certainly a hit with the ladies and have been talked about fondly in the home since their performance.

Smokey Joe

Smokey Joe

Smokey Joe came to Chalfont Lodge on the 25th November and brightened up our day with his country & western music.

Christmas Craft Fair

Christmas Craft Fair

Chalfont Lodge ran it's first ever Christmas Craft Fair on the 19th November. We had a wonderful day and everyone enjoyed looking around the festive stalls. There was a good selection of local hand made items, some of which were made by residents, some by relatives and others by local people. The highlight of the day was a raffle with great prizes. Altogether, we made £478, and we will donate half to The Epilepsy Society - a local charity chosen by residents; and half we are keeping to buy something for the home.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Macmillan Coffee Morning

We had a busy morning; all the residents, visitors and staff were very supportive and helped us to raise a total of £190.24.

We couldn’t have done all this without Katerina, our pastry chef, as she worked really hard to produce outstanding cakes that made the day really special.
