"Excellent treatment and palliative care. Thank you so much."

"My husband spent the last month of his life in Chalfont Lodge receiving palliative care for lung cancer. Right from my first visit to find a safe and comfortable place for him to stay until his death I cannot fault the caring and sensitive care both he and I received at Chalfont Lodge. It was a hard decision to opt for a nursing home, but one both I and close relatives don't regret. We could not have managed the same level of care at home. We very much value the kindness, compassion and understanding from everyone at Chalfont Lodge. Thank you."

"I wanted to take this opportunity to thank and praise Chalfont Lodge for the care they provided my dad, my dad was their longest staying resident to date, he was cared for, for 20 years, this was due to a severe brain injury sustained by dad in 1997. Chalfont provided a safe Environment that offered my dad calm, security and a high level of specialist care that he required. Especial thanks to the staff on memory lane that were there for my dad day in day out catering for his needs but most especially for treating him with respect and as one of their family."

"Care and dedication of care/activities staff have been superb during this crisis. I have the greatest respect for all these people. Staffing levels at times seem to be inadequate. Quality and choice of main meals are disappointing."

"The manager and staff of Chalfont Lodge are reliable, honest, professional and very caring. When my aunt, after a spell in hospital, decided to enter care by her own choice; it took her some time to settle in. Everyone of the staff put in the effort and good nature that was needed to give her the support that our aunt required and to give her the security that she had lost in herself. She soon realized that her wellbeing was certainly better and she came too terms in which is a major change in her life. Well run, well maintained, interesting activities, good food, good housekeeping and laundry service, as well as great care and nursing. Reception and management were always very helpful when questions needed answers; nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Sadly, our aunt passed away in April. It meant so much to know that she had the best of care to her end and that she was not alone. Thank you to all at Chalfont Lodge"

"My mother was at Chalfont Lodge in the Memory Lane Unit for three years after experiencing a serious stroke, until she passed away with vascular dementia. Her medical, personal and social care was excellent throughout. She stayed remarkably healthy until the very end. She loved the staff and the activities she was involved in, remaining in good spirits. The facilities are a class above the vast majority of alternatives."

"As soon as I came I felt at home. When I got to the room there was a plate of fruit and it made my day. Very happy with the services."

"My 96-year-old mother has been a resident for almost three years and has always been treated with the utmost respect and kindness. I am full of admiration for all those who work at Chalfont Lodge in their dedication and care throughout such frightening and unprecedented times. Thank you to you all."

"Staff at Chalfont Lodge work extremely hard and look after my mother very well. They are very kind, caring and patient to the residents and visitors. All supporting staff have also been helpful and pleasant to deal with. I am confident my mum is being well looked after which is a huge comfort to my dad and the rest of the family. Thank you!"

"Our father arrived in June 2019. I cannot fault the care and respect given to my father and the family. The devotion given by all staff on Memory Lane has been second to none. I will be sad not to see the team when the time comes. I wish I could mention a few names but I can't. The food is lovely too, we have Sunday roast most weekends. The cost is high, but so worthwhile, I would't go anywhere else."
Samantha Wcarehome.co.uk rating: 4.92 out of 5
"I couldn't recommend more than they are doing now as the service is excellent looking after my dad and his dignity has been well looked after. My father is very sporty and would be lovely if there was a gym to be able to keep fit."
S Jcarehome.co.uk rating: 5 out of 5
"The care my Dad receives day to day at the home is immeasurable. We know when we leave him at the home he is well looked after which gives us a lot of comfort. The staff are incredibly patient and kind (even though a little overworked). The staff are friendly to family members too which makes visiting easier. The open house policy allows for visits at any time of the day. Just as a note - I've marked the facilities as poor, as the outside needs to be fit for purpose for the residents. You cannot get around the grounds in a wheelchair and there are very little options to take a walk anywhere. Improvements should be made."

"I have been visiting this home 4-5 days a week for the past 5 years. It is the most welcoming and comfortable home I visited. All Staff from the receptionist, laundry cleaners, nurses, carers and activity persons are all very willing and helpful. I would have no problems recommending this home to anyone."

<p>"My 83-year-old mother who has dementia fell and broke her hip. She endured a torrid month in the hospital and left weak, disorientated and unable to stand let alone walk. Her care home is first class but had limited physio support.
I agreed on an intensive programme of physio which, together with provision at her other care home was my attempt to try and get mum at least stronger and not wheelchair dependent for the rest of her life.
The transformation has been remarkable - six weeks later and mum is no longer in a wheelchair, walks quite well with a frame and even unaided.
Whilst this positive change isn't down to any one person - it has certainly been a team effort - there is no doubt as to the "lead" physios - have been excellent in helping achieve the excellent progress made.
All visits to Chalfont Lodge have been efficiently handled and all staff have been kind and friendly

"Two years ago I stayed here for respite and vowed that if I ever need such care again I would come straight back. This year I did precisely that. Again, my stay was ideal. The management team and staff are very kind and so helpful. The food was good and served by charming staff in the pretty dining room. I chatted to a number of the long term residents who spoke warmly of their care and of the varied activities provided for them. My week's stay was very enjoyable and over all too quickly."

"My father had a 3-week stay at Chalfont Lodge during September 2019. He was admitted to Memory Lane ward. During his stay, all staff were professional, caring, loving and courteous. My son's visited many times during my fathers stay and every time it never changed. Everyone including the patients appeared well cared for and happy. The ward manager displayed exceptional leadership skills making this unit run smoothly."

"I live in Canada and I am always concerned for my son and the care he receives as I can only visit the UK two or three times a year. My son was moved to Chalfont Lodge between my visits so I was anxious. Now I have experienced the Lodge, I couldn't be happier with the care he receives. Not only that but every member of staff, regardless of their position, have been welcoming and extremely helpful not only to my son but also to me. The staff and services are excellent. The property is very well maintained and spotlessly clean."

"The transparent care that my sister is receiving is exemplary. All staff and management know who she is, what her issues are and what needs to be done for her to be cared for properly. She has, within herself, improved tremendously during her time at Chalfont Lodge and I am very hopeful that this will continue. I feel that she now has a very secure environment in which to return to a settled normality."

"When I visit my mother-in-law a couple of times a month, I am always struck by how pleasant the environment is for the residents. I often witness the attentive care being given to my mother-in-law and it is clear to me that the standard of care I see is the norm as often the carers are unaware that I am there."

"I am always very well looked after here. The nursing and care staff are attentive and friendly. I have a nice room and bathroom. There are more activities here than at other homes I've stayed in, which are most enjoyable. I also appreciate the other facilities such as the hairdresser and chiropodist."

"My father had two short stays here in the last three months, recovering from surgery. We cannot recommend Chalfont Lodge enough! They provide excellent care and staff and residents are extremely friendly and welcoming. He arrived here from hospital two and a half weeks ago in a wheelchair and is now going home, walking with a walking stick only. Having in-house physio team has been essential to his excellent recovery. Also having meals with the resident's ambassador has been a real bonus."

"My son has been at Chalfont since March 2018 on a weekend basis. Chalfont Lodge is a very relaxing place for my son, he is taken care of extremely well, all the staff go out of their way to make sure that I, as a father, and my son and all of our family, are at ease. Nothing is a problem, he is taken care of in every way possible. All staff from the front desk to the cleaners are very polite and helpful."

"I was originally told Chalfont Lodge was the nursing home best suited to meet my late wife's needs and throughout her stay there, I was convinced that they were right. The activities were brilliant and the nursing as good as it comes. I will be eternally grateful for everything that was Chalfont Lodge for the last years of her life."

"I have found Chalfont Lodge a very good nursing home. The management is always very professional. The nurses are very efficient and carers are kind and caring. I would be happy for one of my family to come to Chalfont Lodge as it has a lovely atmosphere and I am always happy to come to visit here. I wish all nursing homes worked so well. They are a credit to nursing care centres."

"From the first phone call enquiry about respite, the staff were very helpful and an assessment arrangement was made very quickly, which was extremely helpful. Carers and the nursing team are always happy to listen and discuss what's best for my mother. My mother is happy and feels content. All staff at all levels appear to want to make residents happy, which I appreciate. Thank you."

"My stepmother died at 6 on July 14, 2018, after more than 6 years there. I was satisfied with the end of life palliative care, the coordination between the GP and Chalfont Lodge and the knowledge of the nurses on duty on the day she died."

"My stepson has been at Chalfont Lodge for 6-7 years. The care home is a very friendly welcoming place where the staff, from management down are first class. My stepson, with the help of physio, music therapy and many excellent activities is now walking with a frame and can feed himself with little assistance. As a retired architect in the public NHS sector this is the best care home I have comes across in my long career."

"My son has been here for 7 years and despite staff changes the standard has been very good always. Yesterdays' BBQ as excellent - the food was plentiful, tasty and served by very helpful staff. My son has improved mentally and physically since his stroke and continues to do so. It is a happy, welcoming home and I enjoy coming here. Both my son's father and I have had very good help from staff when we have been taken ill at home. Thank you, everyone."

"As a regular visitor to a resident, I am impressed by the care given. Having visited other homes in the past, Chalfont Lodge care centre stands out as exceptional. The staff are very kind and go out of their way to accommodate residents' wishes. I am not aware of bells requesting assistance ringing for long periods before being answered. There are various activities and outings and staff are very willing to take residents for walks in the lovely grounds. Although Chalfont Lodge is a large home it retains a homely atmosphere where visitors are welcome."

"Following problems with challenging behaviour, my mum was asked to leave another residential care home. Thank goodness she was and far from requiring an EMI, Mum has settled into a general unity very happily and is thriving. She is always washed, dressed and her hair styled by the time we arrive to visit in the mornings, her room is clean and tidy, her bed is always made. There are activities for her to join in every morning and afternoon, 7 days a week, in fact people travel to this nursing home as day patients to join in the activities. The food is excellent and plentiful. Mum enjoys the occasional glass of wine with her meals. I highly recommend the very kind and professional staff from General Manager to Health Care Practitioners."

"My wife was admitted at the end of December 2017 and remained there until her death on 10th February 2018. She was totally dependent on 24-hour help as she could not use her limbs, talk or feed herself. Throughout this time she was dealt with in a most sensitive and friendly manner. The staff were also alert to her medical needs and responded with immediate and professional support. Knowing she was in such a reliable Home gave me the massive support I needed during this tragic and final part of her life. The way they dealt with her death was exemplary. Thanks to all the staff and their support during this saddest of times."

We were promised a short daily walk. He does have suitable outdoor clothing. You seem to be looking after his general health well."

"I am satisfied that the care and nursing staff at Chalfont Lodge look after the residents' best interests, treat them with compassion and dignity, keep adequate records and engage with me when I have questions or requests and seek outside professional help, such as from a GP, when that is appropriate."

"Residents of Chalfont Lodge Care Centre are generally facing extremely difficult personal circumstances. Despite this, the facility manages to maintain an air of "quite a nice hotel" which helps greatly with the resident's dignity. I hope I never need this kind of support, but if I do I hope I end up in Chalfont Lodge Care Centre."

"As the family of a resident of Chalfont Lodge we booked to have Christmas dinner in the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed with festive drinks in the lounge/conservatory which had been decorated beautifully and we were able to invite extended family in for a while to ensure we could all see each other that day. Six of our party had booked for dinner. The tables were set nicely and the service was excellent - friendly, attentive staff. There were a couple of good choices for each course and the meal was served promptly and came out hot. We all had a very enjoyable Christmas lunch. Without this service/facility we would not have been able to spend some of Christmas together so we are extremely grateful. We would like to thank all the staff for their hard work - Reception staff for overseeing bookings, Activities staff for the wonderful welcome, Care/Nursing staff for looking after residents, Cleaners/Maintenance/Groundsmen for keeping the place looking good, the Chef/Kitchen staff for working so hard to feed everyone well and of course, management for pulling all this together. Thank you."

"My wife who has dementia was formerly in a highly rated care home that really couldn't cope when my wife showed signs of aggression due to the care homes GP withdrawing an important medication which the care home didn't inform me of. Now she is in Chalfont Lodge Care Centre and in addition to being able to care they are also very able to cope."

"I have been visiting Chalfont Lodge Care Centre since early October. From the first time, the atmosphere was of calm and warmth. The staff are unobtrusive quick to respond with concern and care if needed. This was shown especially shown last weekend to my friend. Today a special buffet lunch was enjoyed to celebrate a very special birthday. It really made a memorable day for us. Then the care shown to all the residents coming to hear a group of children sing just exceptional. So thank you for the wonderful care knowing she is so well there and happy."

"My father is a resident at Chalfont Lodge. It was his birthday just before Christmas and we wanted to arrange a celebratory family party for 13 people. The staff at Chalfont Lodge were totally accommodating of our wishes and made the arrangements at this busy time of year. On the day, the staff had prepared a lovely table for the family in the dining room. The staff could have done nothing more to make the day a truly memorable celebration - just what we wanted."

"My good friend has been in the home for 6 months now. She is 100% happy with everything concerning the care home. (She had a poor experience in another local care home). The staff are brilliant. The rooms are very nice. The home is set in a most beautiful, quiet countryside area. The food is excellent and plentiful. Activities are arranged, twice a day, most days. I highly recommend Chalfont Lodge for anyone considering caring accommodation for family or friends. Ten out of ten!"

"My father spent the last 4 months of his life in palliative care at Chalfort Lodge. He settled very well and remained happy throughout his stay, save for a couple of incidents with other residents that could not have been avoided. His key carer was amazing going above and beyond in every aspect of his welfare and we also felt supported by the team at all stages but especially when the end came and we needed it most. We are grateful for the true care dad received."

"I can not fault the home, the staff, or the care my dad is receiving. However, the thing that has disturbed me immensely, was my son picked my mother up from visiting my dad one afternoon, and there was a funeral directors van parked in front of the main entrance. As my mum was waiting at the lift to take my dad back to his room, the lift opened and two funeral directors had a deceased resident in a bag, and transferred her through the main entrance, in front of visitors sat with residents, very distressing for all, including my son. Need to address this."

"This was my first residency in a care home. I had however visited a number of others in the South East to see friends. In comparison, Chalfont Lodge exceeded my expectations. The staff are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble. Today I return home and I shall miss them - they have become friends as well as carers. The Lodge itself is delightful, very comfortable, spotlessly clean, with attractive lounges and a charming restaurant. The food is very varied and delicious. Should I need care of this kind again I shall definitely return to Chalfont Lodge - and my friends will as well!"

"Mum has settled so well at Chalfont Lodge and is so happy there. The staff are amazing, especially the activity staff team, who are ingenious when it comes to designing both group activities and engaging residents in one to ones. They are excellent at arranging special theme days - a pamper day was a huge success this month, and Mum has enjoyed an outing to a local large supermarket with them as well."

"My dear mum has been at Chalfont Lodge Care Centre for about 10 months, the change we have seen in her since her arrival has been nothing short of amazing. She is happier, more aware, more engaged and improved in every aspect, physical and emotional. The staff and their commitment to my mum's comfort and well-being are extraordinary. "The home is welcoming and generally well run by happy staff. Residents have a variety of problems but are all treated as individuals. When any difficulties arise, they are immediately addressed which is reassuring to residents and families alike. No home is perfect but in my experience, Chalfont Lodge is up there with the best."

"My mother has a strong personality which her illness transforms into so-called 'challenging behaviour'. For this reason other care facilities have previously turned their backs on her, sometimes quite cruelly. From the time of her assessment for Chalfont Lodge (personally by the manager) she has been treated as an individual, with kindness and understanding and enabled to regain her dignity. Best is the feeling that staff in all roles see through the problems arising from age and infirmity to the lovely lady that my mother still is - and can sometimes helpfully remind me of that. After previous tribulations it is a great relief to know that she is now valued and well cared for in a happy environment that also offers high standards of cleanliness and catering. All this despite issues with staff retention and recruitment, which afflict the care system (as currently organised) as a whole."

"My late husband was a resident from the end of July to the day he died (28th of August 2016). He was very happy in his room and could see me arriving by car. The staff were based outside his room so could see when help was needed. Nursing care good. Had to be tube fed. I came to two activities during his stay which I enjoyed. All staff very friendly."

"I spent seven weeks at the above care home. Only had a problem with one of the staff. My experience was one of being looked after in a hotel. Excellent staff, food and being treated as a human and not just sat in a chair in front of a TV. The team that ran the activities were excellent as were most of the staff."

"My mum has been a resident at Chalfont Lodge for approximately 12 years. She has Alzheimer's disease. The care she has received during this time has been consistently outstanding. She is cared for and loved by the nurses. I am kept informed of her care, she is warm, clean and well fed. Her medical needs are all looked after so we have nothing to worry about. She is stimulated through regular activities and although she has advanced Alzheimer's, she is always included. My family and I have been devastated with the prognosis of her Alzheimer's and the home has supported us throughout the years. Thank you to all the wonderful staff."

"My Dad has been Chalfont Lodge Care Centre for 18 years, he is their longest serving resident having received a brain injury at the age of 57. The quality of the care and accommodation at Chalfont is exceptional which is extremely important to us as a family given that this has been dad's home for nearly 20 years. I'm always impressed by the friendliness and patience of the staff when I visit and the quality of the environment is beautiful, unlike many care homes. The staff understand my dad's needs and always communicate with us is there are any health issues or decisions to be made, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chalfont as a safe, caring and dignified home for those in need of care."

"During 2016 the Sunningdale unit at Chalfont Lodge has been transformed. It has become a model which delivers consistently effective and compassionate care to its residents. In nearly 7 years of association with the Sunningdale unit, the standard of care has never been so high. It's finally become a joy to visit our son, who is in long-term care. Whilst the management of the home can take credit for the recruitment and development of such a highly competent team of people, they must also acknowledge their responsibility to maintain the motivation and morale of the staff involved."

"I have always heard from my friend about how well she is being looked after - kind carer, delicious food. I would only say that sometimes her room is rather untidy and cluttered (but that is probably her fault) As a visitor, I feel known and welcomed by the staff - rather like a 4-star hotel."

"My wife is looked after extremely well by carers, nurses and all the staff. She is treated with respect and everyone here has always got a smile and a greeting when they see her in her wheelchair. She can be quite aggressive when being washed and in the shower, but the staff just smile and say "we understand". It is a great relief to me that she is here, in a well-managed house."

"The care of my father over the last 2 years as we have got to grips with him needing help has been second to none. We are always made to feel welcome and dad is very well cared for. The staff very much care for the residents and the unit on memory lane is run well."

"Very happy with care given and wonderful grounds at this home. The activities team work very hard to give a stimulating and fulfilled environment. My only criticism would be that communication to relatives could sometimes be improved."

"Overall, very happy with Chalfont Lodge. However, my father has been waiting for months now to have his room refurbished. I find the carers very caring and my father is treated with utmost dignity and respect. The management and staff are very pleasant and very approachable at all times."

"My wife has dementia and is very inactive but retains her sense of humour. Initially I was concerned that in a big home with so many residents she would be forgotten. In practice she was well looked after and attended some activities though not able to take part. The staff were very kind and when we returned from the classic car show at the home several weeks later the staff greeted her in a kind and charming manner."

"The home/staff are very caring and understanding. There is a good atmosphere in the home and there is a good relationship generally among the staff. On occasions, I feel there are not enough staff. The telephone on reception is not always staffed. Not able to leave a message. The activities staff are particularly good."

"My stepmother has lived at Chalfont Lodge since April 2012. She is confined to bed and has dementia. She eats very little and her low weight is a concern. I am satisfied that the nursery and care personnel are aware of her needs, do a good job in meeting those needs, often in trying circumstances in a professional, friendly and patient way. The staff work long hours and are a credit to Chalfont Lodge."

"My husband has been in this home for 2 years. I have been very happy with the care he receives and have recommended this home to several people. The staff are very friendly and caring to all residents on Memory Lane. Whatever their position they work as a team and the unit is run very well. I visit most days so I see what's going on."

"My friend has been in this home in Memory Lane for almost 2 years bow. All staff from the head nurse to the carers and activity staff are the most kind and caring people. My friend is always clean and tidy and very well cared for. I would have no hesitation in recommending Memory Lane to any other person. Well done to all the staff in this home."

"My mother has been at Barchester Chalfont Lodge for 3 years almost. Before she was in an awful home elsewhere. I cannot specify how pleased I am with my mother's care. She is so happy at Barchester Chalfont Lodge and the staff are amazing, always acknowledging my mother and myself whenever I visit, Chalfont Lodge is a wonderful home."

"My wife has been a resident since January 2016, I had been looking after her for 6yeasrs on my own. (She has advanced dementia) she is 90, I am 91. It became impossible for me to continue so the NHS found this care home for her. I was very worried about her going into a home but the Lodge proved to be superb. The management has a team who treat their residents with "respect" from the general manager to the cleaners, whenever they see a resident or visitor there's always a smile and a greeting to my wife. My wife is very happy there and feels "at home". Well done the staff."

"My wife has been a resident for + 3 years and before that a day care patient for about a year. In all that time I cannot fault the care provided her which has been quite exceptional. The care home has a real family atmosphere and the rapport between staff and families is brilliant. The meals are exquisite. Altogether a most caring establishment."

"My wife has been in Barchester Chalfont Lodge Care Centre since January 11th, 2016. She suffers from severe dementia. She has a very nice room and bathroom and the staff who are very professional look after her extremely well and always with a pleasant approach, even though at times she can be very aggressive. She is always treated with dignity. Because of this, I do not have to worry. I visit her every morning and the staff are always pleasant to me."
