Chalfont Lodge is a purpose-built home that provides residential and nursing care for older people, as well as people with neurological conditions, physical disabilities, and those living with dementia. Our highly qualified and compassionate staff are committed to ensuring that the people we support enjoy life as much as they can. The home has lovely gardens and offers a wide range of activities, including music therapy.

Treatments are patient and goal-centred, aiming to manage the needs of each resident holistically. We use a wide range of modalities, including exercise therapy, hydrotherapy, rebound therapy and physiotherapy, to achieve the maximal benefits.

Our dedicated Memory Lane Community provides specialist care for those with dementia in a homely yet secure environment. We are proud to be one of the first homes to be accredited as part of Barchester’s 10-60-06 Dementia Care Programme, reflecting the enhanced quality of care and improved quality of life experienced by residents here at Chalfont Lodge.

Our home is conveniently located in the small village of Chalfont St Peter, close to Gerrard Cross, with excellent public transport links. We welcome visitors at any time, so please feel free to drop in or call up to discuss how we may best suit your needs.

Types of care

Choosing the right care home for a loved one can be a difficult and overwhelming experience, especially when one is less prepared for this eventuality and is unsure of the type of care that is required. Here at Chalfont Lodge, we offer a number of unique care options within our home; we specialise in caring for people with a variety of complex needs, including a range of neurological conditions, acquired brain injuries and frail older people. We also have a dedicated Memory Lane community that supports people living with dementia, and we provide care for younger people with physical disabilities.

There are strong links with local multi-disciplinary services, including orthotics, wheelchair, and SALT. We specialise in 24 hour postural management of complex disabilities and specialist seating, and run regular consultant and specialist, nurse-run review clinics.

Treatments are residents and relative goal-centred and aim to manage the resident holistically. We use a wide range of modalities, such as exercise therapy, music therapy and physiotherapy (provided by our in-house physiotherapy team) to achieve personal benefits for those we support.

Hayley Helsdown, Lucy Perkins & Alex Perkins

Lifestyle Team

I am Hayley. I have worked in the Lifestyle Team at Chalfont Lodge for 6 years.  I predominately support our Sunningdale community, offering group sessions in the Main Lounge in the morning and spend quality time with individuals of an afternoon.  I have a flair for creating items out of wool and felting personalised accessories for people to wear.
I find my job extremely rewarding and see such a difference in the individuals I support by engaging them in meaningful, personalised activities.

Hello, I’m Lucy, I have been at Chalfont Lodge for two years and there is a lovely community here with all the staff teams, residents and relatives working closely together supporting each other.  My main focus is working with people living in our Memory Lane Community who are living with dementia and I cannot imagine a more rewarding job. I spend my days supporting people, ensuring they are occupied and creating a home away from home.

Hi, my name is Alex and I work in the Lifestyle Team here at Chalfont Lodge. I originally started as a volunteer, but liked it so much I didn't want to leave, so I became a permanent member of the team. My favourite part of the job is getting to know the specific interests of the individual residents living in here and helping them continue it at Chalfont Lodge. I get to learn something new, and the resident gets to continue doing something they really love. It's a really great feeling to know you can make such a difference to someone's day.

Rita Kirby and Sarah Ripacandida

Housekeeping Heads of Departments

Hi, I'm Rita Kirby, I've been with Chalfont Lodge for 17 years. I worked for 10 years in the kitchen and have spent the last 7 running the laundry.  It always makes my day when I'm popping in and out of resident’s rooms and I get to chat to people and find out how they are.  This is like my second home, 3 of my children have all worked here in various roles. The most special thing for me about Chalfont Lodge is the family atmosphere.

I'm Sarah Ripacandida, I've worked at Chalfont Lodge for 16, I enjoy my role as Head Housekeeper because I take pride in the appearance of the home and I enjoy making a difference to people's lives. I've seen many changes over the years I've worked at Chalfont Lodge but the one consistent thing is the family atmosphere created by the staff, residents and relatives.

Louise Hamer

Music Therapist

Hello, my name is Louise and I am the Music Therapist at Chalfont Lodge.

If you’re not familiar with music therapy, it is best explained as a person-centered therapy that uses music as the main source of communication.
It is an exchange between two or more people. I offer one to one sessions and group music sessions. During one to one sessions I sing an introductory song which helps with orientation for instance date and time. After that if it’s possible, I offer the person an instrument (usually a percussion instrument) and we have a musical conversation, taking it in turns to play, becoming playful, loud or silent as is appropriate for that resident at the time. We improvise music. We sing songs together or solo. We talk. I encourage movement in the residents’ bodies by asking them to stretch for objects but I mostly encourage the maintenance of mobility in the hands. For some, their music therapy session is a serious time and for others it is a time to laugh about the frustrations of life. For some it is just a chance to listen to music and relax.

Music therapists need an undergraduate degree and a masters degree in order to practice. I am also a member of the HCPC. I play the violin, piano and ukulele and you will no doubt hear me singing somewhere in the building! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Penny Nielsen

Pet Therapist

Hi, my name's Penny and I’m the Pet Therapist – or ‘PAT’ dog – here at Chalfont Lodge.

My expert skills include: pro tail wagging, master of finding crumbs and captain of 'puppy dog eyes'.

I’m a Miniature Dachshund and I’m the smallest of all my brothers and sisters, so if you can’t tell, I’m pretty tiny!

I love coming to Chalfont Lodge every other Tuesday for lots of hugs from all my favorite aunts and uncles.

I’m definitely the most qualified for the job here at Chalfont Lodge, so don’t you worry, I’ll make sure every ‘cat person’ changes their minds and realizes why us dogs are called ‘man’s best friend’

So next time you’re around, come and say hello; you’ll usually find me lying on my back waiting for an innocent passerby to give me a tummy rub!
