Wayne Hughes
General Manager
My name is Wayne Hughes and I am the General Manager of Chorleywood Beaumont Care Community.
I have been in the care sector since I finished university and have worked in many varied roles in home care and nursing care. I began work in the caring profession as a domiciliary carer to support me whilst I was in university; I soon discovered that I really enjoyed the work and being able to make people's lives more comfortable and enjoyable gave me a sense of pride.
After leaving university, I was asked to work as a care coordinator in the local home care branch and I rapidly worked my way up the various levels of management and was soon a branch manager of a home care agency. After spending many years managing home care agencies, I felt it was time for a change, and decided to focus on managing residential and nursing homes.
My first posting was at a small 19 bedded residential home in Harrow, where I worked as a deputy manager for the home. I enjoyed the work very much and, once the home's manager was promoted, I became the registered manager of this home at a relatively young age.
Since my first posting in a care home, I have managed a number of establishments in various organisations. I have taken time to cultivate my Continuous Professional Development and, along with mandatory training requirements, I have an NVQ Level 4 in Business Management and a Leadership and Management in Care Level 4.
I have found working at Barchester rewarding and I acknowledge the investment they put into their staff and care homes that ensures the best possible care can be provided.
I am a keen cyclist, breed budgies and currently also have 3 ferrets (Rocky, Flipsy and Squeak).
