Activities at Brookfield Care Home

Our Activities coordinator dedicates her time on getting feedback from our residents of what they like to do. We have introduced paper mornings which involves group discussions and an active mind, and we also have a variety of entertainers that come in on a weekly basis. We hold a residents quiz once a week as it is one of our more popular activities, we now call it the Big Quiz due to its popularity.

It is important that we involve the community and family in many of our activities. We have the local rugby club heritage centre coming in once a week to do Bocci (indoor bowls) and seated exercise. We also hold cheese and wine evenings for family and residents which are very popular. Here at Brookfield we pride ourselves on the fabulous bond our activity coordinator has with all our residents as they are as happy to see her each morning as she is to see her friends.

Life at Brookfield Care Home

60's fashion with Mary Quant

Last week our residents marked Mary Quant’s birthday with fun-filled fashion-inspired activities.

Mary Quant is an English fashion designer of youth-oriented styles, responsible in the 1960s for the ‘Chelsea look’ of England and the widespread popularity of the miniskirt and ‘hot pants’.

During the day our residents discussed all things fashion and got involved in a themed quiz, along with mini taking a look at fashion photos and their own creative arts session where they designed their own stylish outfits.

It was a wonderful day, enjoyed by all.

Birthday celebrations

Vivienne enjoyed her wonderful birthday on 19th January. She was over the moon with all her lovely cards, presents and Birthday wishes.

Beautiful cards from her friends and family arrived in the morning. Vivienne had a visit from her nephew Ross who brought a beautiful bouquet of tulips and lots of other tasty gifts. Vivienne was so happy seeing Ross and chatting with him about when he was a baby. Vivienne thanked everyone for making her birthday so very special.

Chinese New Year

Our residents at Brookfield welcomed in the 'Year of the Tiger' with a day of celebrations and activities, they enjoyed a wonderful lunch of Chinese food made by the homes fabulous head chef, Alex and everyone had fun reading their fortune cookies.

Valentine's inspired cookery demo

We had a lovely time joining Chef Alex Connell from Vegetarian for Life for a Valentine’s-inspired virtual cookery demonstration.  Chef Alex created some delicious Valentine’s Day-inspired vegetarian desserts, which our residents had the opportunity to try too.

First, our residents sampled a wonderful sticky toffee pudding, which was absolutely heavenly. Then they tried hazelnut truffles which were a huge hit and finally they were treated to a chocolate orange cake which everyone adored.

International Flower Day

Residents spent a glorious afternoon choosing vases and greenery for a masterclass in floristry.  Residents said they loved the activity and that the 'scent of flowers is everywhere in the home'!

,

Sewing Bee

Residents enjoy meeting regularly for Craft and Sewing sessions where they share project ideas and tips with enthusiasm.  The Sewing Bee classes are very popular giving everyone a chance to learn new skills and feel a sense of achievement when they complete projects for gifts or as keepsakes such as bespoke tote bags, rag wreaths, pinnies, table place mats and seasonal decorations.
