Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.

We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Meet The Reindeers

Across our homes we got into the Christmas spirit of things by joining a festive live virtual experience, led by Des and Kelly from Performing Pets.

Our residents were thrilled to meet the charming furry friends and get up close and personal with the reindeers.  We certainly learnt some interesting facts about the animals and had a fantastic time.

Lest we forget.

"We live in direct relation to the heroes we have. The men and women who without knowing our names or recognizing our faces, risked and sometimes gave their lives to support our country and our way of living. We must say thank you."

At Braeburn Lodge we celebrated this special, memorable day with some of our wonderful residents. John the harpist kindly played a selection of beautiful and sentimental tunes, deflecting on the hero’s we lost during the war. It was certainly a very emotional morning, one that will always be remembered amongst our residents and staff members!

Fireworks and hot chocolate.

What an exciting evening we had at Braeburn Lodge care home. Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the very colourful fireworks display, very carefully arranged by our home’s maintenance team. It was wonderful to see family, friends and local neighbours popping in to have a little bit of fun with our residents.

All our guests were provided with hot chocolate and whipped cream, while the children were treated to a display of sparklers. Together with our friends, our residents were very excited about the fireworks. Some of our wonderful residents even sat inside, eagerly watching the flashing lights as they discussed the evening with other fellow residents.

Spooky surprises for everyone!

Our residents had an amazing time during our annual Halloween celebrations. First, our home was treated to a “Halloween” themed concert hosted to us by the lovely K J and the Catt. Our residents spent the morning singing along to so many creepy songs. Then, we hosted a mini spooky party for all our friends and family. It was great to see so many familiar faces join in with all the fun. Finally, we opened our home on the night of Halloween to all the local trick or treaters. It was fun seeing our residents admiring and judging all the impressive handmade children’s costumes. It was certainly an exciting few days here at Braeburn Lodge.

A carers dedicated support for her residents

One of Braeburn’s much-loved carers, Cheryl completed the Great Eastern Run this year with her partner Gary to raise funds for our wonderful home. Cheryl donned her trainers and braved the 13.1 miles of the half marathon in tricky, Icey conditions in order help buy some nursing equipment. Together with her partner, they raised £1,280 for the home which is an absolute fantastic total!

We are one big family here at Braeburn Lodge. Cheryl is a very dedicated and supportive carer who always has the best interests of our residents at heart. All our lovely residents are very proud of what Cheryl has achieved and look forward to receiving new nursing chairs within our home.

Autumn Animal Petting Party

This month our wonderful residents had an exciting visit from Michelle and her wonderful pets. Our residents were spoilt for choice when it came to selecting an animal to pet or cuddle! There were cats, dogs, a guinea pig, a rabbit, a tortoise and even a chicken named Doris

Medical researchers have found a direct connection between interacting with animals and enjoying positive health benefits. These benefits include mental health, physical health, and skill improvement! Our wonderful residents always enjoy these beneficial visits from our community. It will be a true delight to invite the animals back to Braeburn Lodge next year!
