Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home
Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.
We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Celebrating Cadbury's
Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.
Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.
It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!
ELVIS was in the building
WOW.. what an exciting, musical morning. Elvis Presley (aka Mike Shelby) entered the building in his very famous white suit and swept our lovely residents off their feet. He sang a selection of songs from his greatest hits, as well as engaging with everyone in between. Some of our residents were big fans of Elvis back in the day and wished they had watched him in concert.
Our residents had the best of time, singing along to all their favourite songs. One resident even took us all by surprise and began to dance to the beats of Elvis as she watched him in awe. It was a wonderful sight to see so many of them having much fun and engaging with each other. We now look forward to our next live event in a few months when we hope to invite “Mr Cliff Richard” back to our wonderful home.
An afternoon at the Horses
On April 11th, some of our wonderful residents were treated to an hour of “virtual” horse racing, in preparation for the Grand Nationals coming up that weekend. It was the perfect opportunity to get our residents together for a fun, social afternoon, to reminisce about their memories on this national event. Our lovely residents Jackie and Nancy were quite an expert at selecting their horses and were very helpful when explaining the rules of the game to the rest of the team.
It was touch and go at one point, as we watched the virtual races halt to an end each time. Although watching the faces on our lovely residents faces made this game even more exciting. There were also small gifts and refreshments handed out to of our wonderful participants. Our residents now look forward to the next live event, when we hope to arrange an evening of horse racing with all our family and friends too.
Colin’s wish come true
Colin had always wanted to go out to a local pub with one of his friends from the home. He always enjoys having a good conversation with Norman during mealtimes, and thoroughly loves spending time with him during other social events. So, we chose “The Goat” as an ideal destination for their little outing together.
The Goat is a traditional public house and restaurant, first established in 1647 and located in the rural Lincolnshire hamlet of Frognall. It is very close to Market Deeping and used to also be a local for Colin before he moved into the home. During the outing, our gentlemen spoke about the kind of food they like to eat, and about how big the portions of the meals were served to them on the day.
Overall, the visit was a great success. Colin really enjoyed his wonderful trip out with his best friend and cannot wait to go out on another adventure soon!
Come sing!
Residents across our homes and hospitals had a fantastic time with vocal coach Dan Cooper from Biiah as he led an amazing sing-a-long session for residents to enjoy.
Residents who joined the event were able to learn different techniques as they sang the famous ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ by Jimmy Cliff and ‘Here Comes the Sun’ by The Beatles.
Across our homes there were smiles and laugher all around. The session was such a success and was great for the mind, body and soul.
Harrogate Chocolate Factory
We had a brilliant time across our services with Harrogate Skills 4 Living as they took us on a wonderful virtual visit to their Harrogate Chocolate Factory.
Residents were thrilled to discover details about the chocolate-making process and the fascinating journey from bean to bar, all while enjoying some delicious sweet treats.
The Factory aims to employ people with learning disabilities and autism, involving them in all parts of the process, from sorting and roasting the beans to packaging and sales. The experience was truly enjoyed by all who joined this event.
