Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.

We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Making memories with our residents

At Braeburn Lodge Care Home, we always try our very best to accommodate our resident’s needs. On this occasion we took some of our wonderful residents from our Memory Lane community on a lovely countryside ride in Lincolnshire. The weather was not the best, although our residents had an adventurous time, pointing out to all the floods around town.

Sometimes it is not possible to plan big events around our residents due to various reasons. However, we will always try to include them in some form of daily activity. Our mini outings have become quite a popular event in our home, especially with our Memory Lane residents. We always take a little picnic and make sure we park up, have a good chat, and indulge on some hot chocolate and treats.

Metal Detection Dogs

Across our services residents had a fantastic time during a special live virtual event, led by Emilia from Medical Detection Dogs.

Emilia took us on a journey to discover how the organisation began training dogs to support people with complex health conditions, saving their lives on a daily basis.

Using their amazing sense of smell, these dogs can identify odour changes emitted prior an episode and alert the person to take preventative action.

We were introduced to the wonderful dogs and the science behind the sniff.  It was a delightful experience for everyone, especially our canine-loving residents.

Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

All over the country our care homes and hospitals linked up for Barchester’s Big Quiz of the year!

Residents tested their knowledge with a variety of questions, from historical humdingers and musical musings to pictorial puzzlers and connective conundrums.

Everyone who participated had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Braeburn’s Annual Christmas Fete

Wow.. what a successful event we had at Braeburn Lodge this year! We had a selection of festive external gift stalls, family tombola, Christmas raffle, mulled wine & cake, live music and also our very own Santa’s Grotto.

While our residents had the opportunity of looking through all the amazing gifts on sale, family enjoyed a glass of wine while also being entertained by our volunteer guitarist! Our raffle was certainly a big triumph, so many wonderful hampers gifted to all of our lucky winners.

It was amazing to see so many visitors from our local community, come together on this joyful event. Our residents really appreciate all the love and support they receive from friends and family, especially over the festive period.

Wishing everyone a joyful and peaceful Christmas this year.

Paint A Pot morning with our residents

Today, the lovely Derek from Paint A Pot visited our wonderful home and hosted an excellent Christmas crafts morning.

Our residents had the opportunity of selecting a festive ornament made from clay first, before painting it in their own choice of colours. Through various artistic mediums such as painting and sculpture, art therapy encourages seniors to explore their feelings and strengthen their bones! We thank Derek for a wonderful, sensory based class.

Our residents look forward to receiving their glazed Christmas ornaments.

Festive Quiz Morning at Braeburn

On the 4th of December we started our festive month at Braeburn Lodge with a wonderful quiz and games morning.

Wendy Ponsford from Viatris, kindly volunteered for the day by organising a challenging morning for all of our wonderful residents. Wendy also brought along her elves, who were also very active and helped entertain everyone. Gifts were handed out to all of our winners.

Overall, it was very exciting and successful event, enjoyed by everyone in our home.
