Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.

We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A religious service for our wonderful residents

Braeburn Lodge welcomed Vicar Mark Williams to our home for our monthly Church service. Some of residents are quite religious, therefore providing a valuable religious service has always been a top priority at our home. Hosting regular religious services in care settings  gives the residents something to look forward to, and also helps them form a routine which may minimise stress and loneliness.

Our residents thoroughly enjoyed the service and sang away loudly at the selected hymns. They cannot wait for the next Church service in a month’s time.

Farewell party for our lovely Katie

Today we said our sad goodbyes to our wonderful and very hardworking Administrator Katie. Katie has been a part of the Braeburn Lodge family ever since our home was first opened in 2014. She has worked extra hard to get to the next level in her career at Barchester.

Having such a caring and kind personality, Katie has always been very popular amongst our wonderful residents. We cannot thank Katie enough for

All of her support and wish her the best of luck in her new and exciting role.

Braeburn’s End of Summer Entertainment

We welcomed back the very talented Mr Nick Glover to our wonderful home for an exciting musical extravaganza. Our residents were thrilled

With the choice of songs sung on this occasion. In fact a few were even a little tearful due to the memories brought back during the concert!

There was definitely lots of singing and dancing happening throughout the morning.

Thanking all of our excellent Care and Housekeeping staff on the day for their support. It was a delight to watch the staff engage with the residents.

An introduction to dance

What a fantastic hour our lovely residents had at Braeburn Lodge. The lovely Sally Correia from Encore Academy ran an excellent Dance session for some of our more adventurous residents. It was full of light exercise, music and easy dance moves accompanied with props.

Dancing can release chemicals in the brain that actively work to reduce cortisol, which helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression! Our residents loved today's activity and cannot wait to welcome Sally back to our home again.

A creative morning in Memory Lane

This morning we spent a wonderfully creative morning with our Memory Lane residents. Our theme was "Summer Trees". Our residents love experimenting with finger painting as it gives them a chance to be free and expressive. Even our wonderful carers were involved in this activity and helped support our residents during the crafting session.

Creative activities like painting and listening to music can stimulate the brain. It can help people living with dementia to create a dialogue and provide them with an additional means to express themselves.

Braeburn's Chess Club

What a very exciting event at Braeburn Lodge. Two of our wonderful residents have been wanting to play a great chess for such a long time. It was about time we made their special dream come true. The game turned out to be both tense and fun at the same time .. although our gentlemen had the best experience. We cannot wait for Colin and David to set a date for their next match!
