Activities at Braeburn Lodge Care Home

Our dedicated activities team are constantly dreaming up new and wonderful ways to support and stimulate the mind, body and soul of the residents we look after. Taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. From trips to crafts, parties to skittles, musical performances and quizzes, we include something for everyone and pride ourselves on including everyone into the fun.

We have a brilliant team of volunteers who help us to deliver more trips, support us at events and pop in for a cup of tea and chat. We have pet therapy at least once per week (sometimes twice!) and we take advantage of every school break by holding large scale events that we can invite families with children to. We have been developing ties with our neighbours since we first opened and thanks to this, we have successfully brought together our residents with local churches, choirs, Brownies groups, and schools. Whatever your interests are, here at Braeburn, there's something for everyone.

Yasmine Dawson

Activities Coordinator

I have worked at Braeburn Lodge since 2015. I started working as a carer and the activities side of the role really appealed to me. We organise a variety of activities to suit everybody’s preferences and abilities. I enjoy working at Braeburn and making a difference to the residents’ lives.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

World photo day with Carousel nursery

Strike a pose! We had a fantastic visit from Carousel nursery children. Our residents couldn’t stop smiling as they watched and helped the children colouring in pictures of different cameras and playing pass the parcel, each layer unwrapped, revealed a sweet surprise. Heather said the children were marvellous and so well behaved. We finished the day with a mini photo shoot, with props including a moustache, crown and funky glasses. This was such a happy day for the children and our lovely residents. Huge thank you to carousel Nursery for coming and putting huge smiles on our ladies faces.

Deepings Raft Race

On your marks, get set, RAFT! Every year Deeping holds its amazing raft race where the whole community gets involved from building rafts, having a stall or spectating. This year we took a walk down with Len and Rita accompanied by one of our night carers Jo, to cheer on the teams.

It was a morning full of laughter, watching the creative rafts float by. This year's theme was kids TV shows, including teletubbies, smurfs and the Mario Brothers, just to make a few.

Rita said, "I've had such a good morning! My favourite has to be the shirtless men. It was very entertaining". Well done to everyone involved. It was an electrifying event that was enjoyed by all.

A trip to Hammerton zoo

Tigers, Bears and monkeys everywhere! This month we did not one but two trips to Hammerton zoo as it was so popular with our residents. Irene, Sandra and Joyce were able to see animals from all round the world in person, and had a chance to enjoy a scrumptious picnic sat in front of a family of cheetahs. Irene couldn't stop laughing at the howling monkeys. Len and Gill visited the zoo next and they were both laughing at the gibbons swinging around their enclosure and chasing each other. Len said, "I loved feeding the goats." We brought them all a magnet at the end to remember this amazing day.

Homes come together for 'Big Quiz'

Barchester care homes and hospitals nationwide linked together for a fantastic quiz in celebration of Barchester’s 100th live virtual event.

Residents engaged in a variety of questions ranging from historical trivia to visual puzzles and brainteasers.

Everyone who joined had a fantastic time and enjoyed some friendly competition.

Bingo fever

Dabbers and prizes at the ready! Bingo is such a classic activity that residents at Braeburn Lodge look forward to every week, it’s our most popular game. We gathered in our sunny garden room, then it was eyes down. It's a wonderful game that supports cognitive skills, improves dexterity and builds friendships. Sheila, our newest resident said, "Oh I love bingo!" And was so good she won a prize! We are all looking forward to the next game of bingo.

Serenaded with a beautiful Harp

Residents and staff were delighted with a magical live performance from John Dalton on his beautiful harp this week! Our home was filled with lovely harmonies and memorable songs. Everyone joined in with the singing and the room was filled with happiness. Resident Rita said "I've had such a good morning, that man was really good!” John has been entertaining the residents and visiting Braeburn Lodge for a while now and we always look forward to his visits!
