Activities at Badgeworth Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators provide a stimulating social programme to suit residents' individual tastes and desires, and offer group or one-to-one activities based on individual preferences. We are a dedicated team that always ensures residents have enough to do to keep them stimulated and entertained. There are regular trips out on the minibus to nearby places of interest, and exercise classes to suit people of all capabilities, in addition to much, much more.

Remembrance trip to the Cathedral

We are extremely lucky at Badgeworth to live within 20 minutes drive of one of the countries most stunning cathedrals. Gloucester cathedral often goes above and beyond for remembrance day and this year was no exception. The poppy displays were exquisite and we all thoroughly enjoyed reading the wonderful stories from older veterans that were displayed around the cathedral. It was a fantastic day and we look forward to visiting the cathedral again to see the Christmas displays next month.

Flower arranging

Flower Arranging is a regular activity held here at Badgeworth, which our residents love. Today our residents got stuck straight in, they loved the smell of the fresh flowers and putting them into the vase of water. One of the residents particularly loved the yellow roses and liked the feel of the petals on her face. We played a 60's soundtrack in the background which the residents couldn't help but sing along to while they worked.

Halloween party at Badgeworth

The residents and families had a wonderful time at our annual Halloween party at Badgeworth. The residents and staff thoroughly enjoyed getting dressed up in their spooky attire and listening to themed music whilst tucking in to a delicious buffet cooked by our wonderful chef. Many families came in to enjoy the party with their loved ones, a lovely day was had by all.

Open day celebrations "40's and forces"

Our 1940's themed open day was wonderful. We had a fantastic turn out with many friends and family coming to join in the celebrations as well as local people coming to have a tour of our home. Our vintage tea room was decorated in traditional "street party style" with replica 1940's newspapers, household leaflets and ration books. The wartime memorabilia brought back memories for the residents especially the vintage "Kit-Kat" chocolate bar wrapper. We had a Glen Miller tribute band come to perform called "Moonlight serenade", which made the atmosphere even more electric. The residents enjoyed listening to the classics and could be heard laughing to the jokes down the corridor told by the band. Jacek our chef created a fantastic buffet with pork pies, scotch eggs, pickled onions, mini quiches, cupcakes and a cheese platter which all went down a treat. Jacek even used old tuna and corned beef tins as the serving pots to give it a real wartime feel. our open day was a huge success and we look forward to seeing everyone at our Cheese and wine evening on 20th November at 6pm.

Awards ceremony at The Houses of Parliament

Awards ceremony at The Houses of Parliament

We had a great day out at The Houses of Parliament yesterday. Our activities coordinator Hannah Mulholland was asked to be one of the speakers at the 10 year anniversary awards ceremony for Vegetarian for life (VFL). The main thought behind the speech was to emphasize the importance of ensuring that no one feels frightened or worried about moving into one of our homes as we will work together; chefs, managers, activities coordinators and caterers to ensure that we meet the needs of our wonderful residents.

Jacek our Head Chef was invited to the awards as a finalist and was in competition with two fantastic chefs (one from a completely vegetarian care home in London)

Jacek WON the award and has now been able to bring the trophy back to Badgeworth for us all to display with great pride. We are all very proud of him!

It is important that our veggie/vegan residents/ potential residents know that we have an understanding of their needs. We have a duty to ensure our residents beliefs are considered in every aspect of their care

World food day celebrations

Our residents at Badgeworth court love trying out different dishes as many of them have traveled all around the world, what better day to celebrate this than on World Food day.  We had an afternoon of tasting delicious food from around the world. We had stuffed vine leaves, giant bean and tomato salad, hummus and olives to celebrate Greece and the Mediterranean. We had onion bhajis and pakoras to get a taste of India. The crispy Chinese spring rolls went down a treat with sweet chilli sauce. We had beautiful big and juicy Medjool dates from Morocco and Watermelon and fresh pineapple as a nod to the Caribbean. The residents loved the different tastes and look forward to helping our chef incorporate some of them into the menu at Badgeworth.
