Activities at Austen House Care Home

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

Life at Austen House Care Home

Messages to loved ones.

Lauren the Activity Coordinator at Austen House, always makes sure that the residents are well connected with family and friends. Everyone has lots of Skype calls with loved ones & if that is not possible then notes are made to send home to keep everyone feeling special and loved at this time.

Interactive Magic Table fun

Residents really enjoy the interactive magic table that has been installed at the home. Its a great way to get involved, have some fun and keep sensory movement going.

Doorstep Deliveries

Staff at Austen House teamed up with the Earley Help hub a local support network that link volunteers to elderly people in the area. The chef made 40 scones complete with cream and jam and staff helped deliver them to local people they thought would benefit from a delicious afternoon tea.

Welcoming New Residents

Naysayi the General Manager at Austen House, was so thrilled with the new art work she had received. The banner was placed the right outside the front of the house so that everyone can see it when they drive past. They are looking forward to welcoming new residents into the home and have made some changes inside too. They look forward to welcoming you.

Summer projects.

So thankful for the glorious weather. Our new project is well under way restoring and painting our garden furniture. The residents love to give a helping hand and be in the sunshine. Not that we need an excise to be outside but its nice to be busy too.

The Mayor gives thanks to staff for their hard work & commitment

The Mayor came to Austen House with sacks full of goody bags for our wonderful staff. He wanted to give something back and show his appreciation for how hard everyone is working not just right now but always. The community all teamed up to give gifts from their stores for everyone to enjoy. What a lovely surprise it was and brightened everyones day. We cant wait to have him back for afternoon tea when we can.
