Activities at Austen House Care Home

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

Life at Austen House Care Home

Pancake Day Fun

At Austen House we had a great day flipping pancakes and the best part must have been decorating them. We made silly faces on our pancakes before we ate them. This pancake won silliest face and was created by a resident.

Celebrating Good CQC Rating

Austen House received a Good CQC rating after a recent inspection. Staff members and residents were delighted tp celebrate the result after being reviewed as safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led service.

Retirement Party

Dr. A Cleve Chevassut will truly be missed at Austen House as he embarks on a new journey to retirement. Dr. Chevassut was an outstanding person and had a heart of gold. He treated everyone with the utmost respect and care. We celebrate and say goodbye to our dear friend with help of the staff, residents and Mayor, Councillor David Hare.

Christmas Party

The residents at Austen House enjoyed celebrating the holidays with a grand party welcoming all residents, relative, and team members. The Christmas party was a lovely way to bring everyone together, to enjoy music, dancing, food, and drinks. Everyone was laughing and smiling during the day. A few residents shared their own personal Christmas stories with everyone and cherished reminiscing with each other.

Alpacas Visit Austen House

This Christmas we didn’t have reindeer at Austen House, but we had two beautiful Alpacas. The residents loved these calm and docile animals and felt there loving energy. The residents were very interested in the two alpacas and asked many questions about them.

World Food Day

World Food Day was held at Austen House for the team, residents, family and friends to share with each other a little about their culture. Everyone brought in a special dish to share and we have a great time tasting new foods and talking about different countries and how to make special dishes. This brought back many special memories for people from when they grew up and it was an incredible way to for everyone to connect.
