Activities at Austen House Care Home

Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.

We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.

In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.

In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

Life at Austen House Care Home

Cake Competition

The lovely care team are showing off our beautiful Christmas cake. Our residents made, planned and decorated a beautiful homemade cake for the annual cake competition. Many people were involved in the process, and we enjoyed all the hard work it took to create something so delicious.

Remembrance Sunday

Austen House came together to remember those who died in the line of duty. Many stories and poems were shared to reminisce with each other and the service was streamed on television. We also thank the Thrive Toddler group for the wreath, which was made specially for Austen House.

Bonfire Night

We celebrated Bonfire Night with hot chocolate, sparklers, s’mores, poems, and crafts. The residents had lots of fun and many smiles were shared by all.

Oktoberfest

Residents at Austen House enjoyed celebrating the world’s largest folk festival by taking part in an authentic German experience, listening to German music, tasting traditional beer and sampling pretzels and treats! Everyone had a lovely afternoon.

Harvest Festival

Austen House celebrates the Harvest Festival by collecting gifts and non-perishable food items for the local community. Residents loved celebrating the occasion and even got creative, making a salt dough display.

Pumpkin Carving

Residents at Austen House show off their creative skills by carving, painting and gluing pieces to a pumpkin. Residents had lots of fun doing this and a few said they have never done it before. Everyone was very happy with the outcome of the pumpkin and were laughing at the silly faces!
