Activities at Austen House Care Home
Here at Austen House, we like to get to know those we support, and from the day of moving in, our activities team will spend time on an individual basis learning about interests, likes and dislikes, life history and favourite hobbies.
We provide a wide range of activities, from one-to-one time, manicures and board games, through to live entertainment, prize bingo and our ever-popular cheese & wine events. Our activities team will also tailor individual activities to ensure residents can have as much or as little involvement as they choose.
In the summer months, greater focus is given to outdoor activities, such as barbecues and garden parties. In conjunction with our Chef, themed events are planned throughout the year, bringing activities and food together.
In their pink polo shirts, our activities team are easily identifiable and embrace ideas and suggestions from residents and their relatives to ensure that the activities provided keep those we support engaged, stimulated and entertained.

Hi my name is Iuliana, I was a history teacher for 12 years before I joined Barchester in 2017. I am passionate about my job and love working with people. I enjoy planning and delivering meaningful activities which make a difference to our residents lives.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Flower power art!
Sunflowers were our inspiration this week for a crafting session, the vibrant yellow of summer brought smiles and talk of summer picnics and days out with family and friends
Social time with friends
We all enjoyed a drink with our game of dominoes, so much more fun when you have a group to chat and spend time with.
Professionals' Breakfast Event!
Thank you to everyone who came to our professionals’ breakfast this morning, it was lovely to meet everyone from our local community. We had great weather to enjoy the fresh air and a delicious outdoor breakfast, another date is being planned for September so watch out for an announcement in our events section or call us on 0118 926 6100 to register for your invitation
Birds of Prey visit Austen House!
We had a lovely visit from Berkshire birds of prey! We were able to meet live birds of prey up close and personal, learn about their habits and habitats and falconry history. It was an amazing experience and everyone had a chance to hold a bird.
Trip to our local pub!
We had a lovely afternoon trip to our local pub to enjoy a cold, refreshing drink. Everyone enjoyed the great weather and a fun afternoon chatting away!
Carers Week
We recognised one of the unpaid careers in the community for National Carers Week. Ethima has been caring for her husband and we thought it would be a lovely surprise to show her that all she is doing is amazing!
