Activities at Ashlar House Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Life at Ashlar House Care Home

Police Visit

In a continued effort to engage with the local community, police patrol liaison officers were invited to Ashlar House to meet with residents, who were ;interested in seeing uniformed police officers. As this program develops more and more, local community representatives will be invited to engage with other residents.

Fun in the Sun

Ashlar resident spent some time in our gardens recently when the sun was out. They enjoyed activities and refreshments in the warm weather and kicked back to enjoy the sounds of the birds and gentle breezes.

Indoor Gardening

Because of the unpredictable English weather, we decided to made gardening easy for residents.

With some planning and the right supplies, we began by seeding some vegetables. This type of gardening is the perfect way to break through the chill of the winter and start thinking about the spring and summer.

We are hoping to expand this activity into a vegetable garden for residents to help keep them active and to give them a sense of accomplishment and responsibility, in addition to the delicious reward of fresh, nutritious vegetables at the end of the growing season.

,

Easter Preparations

Staff and residents got creative for Easter and made some seasonal decorations to adorn the walls of our home.

Resident of the Day

Today’s ‘Resident of the Day’ coincided with the ‘Ted the Bread’ bread making competition inspired by the the author of ‘Ted the Bread’.

Families, friends, and Ashlar Day Centre team members, as well as some local professionals, took part in this event, proudly wearing their ‘Ted the Bread’ T-shirts.

We spent some time in a master class learning how to make bread. Several copies of 'Ted the Bread’ books were sold, with all proceeds being donated to Children with Cancer.

Everyone had fun and left with the confidence to tackle bread making on their own.

Nutrition & Hydration Week

We spent the week trying different breakfasts, hosting afternoon teas, sampling and guessing different flavoured waters and smoothies, participating in fruit quizzes and fruit tasting sessions, and made sure our daily tea trolley was always stocked up with treats, smoothies, cakes and healthy fruits and yogurts.
