"As soon as I entered Ashlar House I felt it would be the right place for my mum. Its friendly, caring, committed staff make the place it is. I think that all the staff do a fantastic job and have managed to continue to do that in extraordinarily challenging times. The home is always very clean and well presented and has a good atmosphere. Nothing is ever too much trouble and they are very responsive and open to suggestions and ideas about the care of a relative. I feel that my mum is in a very caring environment and I am grateful and glad of it."

"My relative has resided at Barchester Ashlar House Care Home since January, after a long stay in hospital. The staff have always been very helpful, caring and patient. Communication between management and relatives is excellent. Queries have been dealt with quickly and efficiently. Despite lockdown, activities have still been organised to entertain the residents. I am very pleased and reassured by the care my aunt is receiving and I would not hesitate to recommend this home for a loved one."

"My dear mother has been at Barchester Ashlar House for a few years now and she couldn’t be in better hands. It’s helped us with this lockdown knowing Mum is better well cared for. We as a family can’t thank the staff enough for being Mum's family when we weren’t able to see her. Thank you all so much."

"Our father was admitted into Ashlar House in late February 2020. Since his admission, and to date, we have been very pleased with the standard of care he has received. We found our personal contact with the staff at the home to be always helpful and understanding of our own and our father's needs. He seems to be extremely well cared for and is happy and content on most occasions we visit him. The staff that look after him do an excellent job and we are pretty sure he feels this and appreciates the care he is receiving. We would like to thank all the staff at Ashlar House for the excellent ongoing care they provide for our dear father."

"Ashlar House care home have looked after my mum for the past three years. The home has a safe, secure location within the grounds of St Margarets Hospital and has a pleasant, calm environment, with good facilities. There is regular entertainment and activities are organised; the nurses and care staff are very professional and patient. The home is always clean and serves good meals which are prepared onsite."

"My Father suffers from dementia and when he went to Ashlar House he had come from hospital where he was very confused and weak. With the superb care that he got from day one, he looks not only healthier but happy in himself and more alert. When I went to see him I could not believe the improvement in him and because of the stimulation and the one to one care he actually recognised me and although couldn't have a conversation was very inquisitive. I cannot thank the superb staff enough for what they have and continue to do for him."

"I went to see my dad yesterday for the first time since he left hospital recently, and it was such a good experience. When I entered Ashlar House I was blown away at how lovely the staff are and how lovely the home itself is. How the home has enabled family members to see their loved ones in the special pod is just brilliant and just what we all needed. My dad looked so well and cared for it was brilliant to see. The carers really know him already and there is a level of trust and respect that oozes from them all. Please keep up the fab work."

"High standard of personal care by willing and competent staff. Great assistance from the home manager in obtaining NHS funding. Activities well arranged and the chef provides really nutritious food. In view of COVID-19 access is very limited to allow a more detailed review."

"I am happy with the care provided to my dad. All the staff I have met are warm and welcoming and nothing appears too much trouble. They are professional, caring and patient with my dad’s needs. Through this COVID-19 period, they have gone out of their way to facilitate as much communication with him as possible either by personal visits, individual calls or group calls. I can’t thank you enough for all your hard work."

"I am extremely happy that my mum is at Ashlar House. It is a very warm and welcoming environment and all the staff go above and beyond to care for her. Nothing is too much trouble and all her needs are well catered for. The environment is clean and well kept, the rooms are comfortable and every effort is made to make them as homely and familiar as possible. They do everything they can to provide stimulus and activities for the residents. Before the pandemic, as a relative, you could drop in whenever you wanted. During the pandemic, they have done all they can to keep relatives updated and create safe opportunities for visits. I'm really glad that I am able to once again see my mum, which is essential for her and me. I would like to give a very warm thank you to everyone at Ashlar House for looking after my mum."

"A dear friend of mine has been wonderfully looked after at Ashlar House in these difficult times with the Coronavirus, with continued high levels of added hygiene that's needed. A great help has been the FaceTime that was set up by the home, it has reassured my friend and me during these last months in lockdown and restricted access times. Sending a big thank you to all at Ashlar House for all your hard work and heartfelt professional care."

"As this difficult year comes to a close I just wanted to say how delighted I am that my great Aunt is being so beautifully and professionally cared for at Ashlar House. Its been a very trying year for all residents and staff at Ashlar, I know due to very tightly controlled hygiene rules that are keeping staff and residents as safe as possible. As personal visits have been drastically reduced and often not possible over the past few months the Activities Manager has been very busy in contacting loved ones including my great Aunt with FaceTime via computer a very valuable and reassuring way to keep in touch in these times, it has provided communication which has helped greatly. Also, I would love to thank all staff including management for their continuous tireless care and work at Ashlar I am very happy that my great auntie is being kept safe by caring and professional staff there. Seasons Greetings to Management and staff at Ashlar and a Happy New Year 2021."

My dad has settled in nicely which is due to the caring and dedicated staff. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble, as they have the welfare of my dad as their priority. "I am very fortunate that my mother has been looked after and cared for at Ashlar House for more than five years. As I live in the USA I am unable to visit frequently, but I did manage two visits last year. Ashlar is a very good, clean home with loving, caring, professional staff and my mother is fed well and kept very clean and happy there. I couldn’t wish for her to be anywhere better and can only say from my experience, that Ashlar is a better home than I’ve witnessed here in the USA. It’s a shame I have had to cancel my visit this year due to government airline guidance, but I can relax knowing my mother is so well cared for."

"My partners mum always looks happy and well cared for. We speak to her on WhatsApp, and we see who the staff are care for her always doing her hair and nails and listening to her. I work in age care in Australia, and I can tell if the staff really do care and they do. One lady has been amazing sending us photos and helping her speak with us on the phone. She says she loves the food, and the staff, and the whole place, especially the gardens. Great job everyone..."

"To me, this care home is outstanding in every way. The bedrooms, eating areas, lounge everywhere you go is clean and tidy as you would expect. My uncle is a resident in this home and I have not seen him as happy as he is now for a long time. The care he gets is outstanding. He is always doing some sort of supervised activities. I live 60 miles away and it’s good to know my uncle is being well looked after. I would recommend this care home to anybody who is looking for somewhere safe, clean and secure, for their loved ones to be looked after."

"I am the daughter of a resident and live in Australia. I can tell all aspects of her care are taken into consideration. Excellent communication is always there for the family and with my mum and the staff whenever we need it. The staff, especially one staff member in particular, always keeps me informed, sends me pictures of my mum and helps me talk with her on Whats-app as mum needs help using her phone. I can see her room and the whole place is always clean and tidy and the food looks healthy. My mum always speaks highly of all the staff as kind, caring people who take time to chat with her and are always helpful to all our family. My daughter loves calling and speaking with her grandmother and we feel like she is in excellent hands which is very important as we are so far away and can't visit her. I have been very impressed with the COVID-19 safety plans and the level of high care at all times for my mum and it is very much appreciated. Big congratulations to all the staff and management."

"Our father was admitted to Ashlar House on the 28th February 2020 after suffering a major stroke and brain bleed on the 20th January. He was already suffering from Alzheimer’s over the last 14 years. The care my father has received since his admission has been absolutely first class. All the staff, have been excellent, but a special word for one member in particular, who during the lockdown has always taken the time to call us on FaceTime so we can communicate with Dad. She is a bubbly, has an engaging personality who is a credit to the care system. I am looking forward to visiting my dad at the nursing home as soon as is possible, and thanking the staff personally. Thank you for the way they have looked after our father during these difficult times."

"Sadly I lost my wonderful husband on Saturday 6th June 2020 aged just 70 years old. We had been married for 51 years and known each other for 62 years since childhood. I would just like to say that he has been a resident in Ashlar House in Epping for 5 and a half years. I can’t begin to thank the staff enough, starting with; The Manager, The deputy manager, The lady on reception and admin, Our chef and his staff. Every one of the fantastic carers whom number far too many to name individually, and I’m afraid I will miss someone out, and finally the housekeeping staff and cleaners. Ashlar House has looked after not only my husband but have also looked after me, especially in his last week before he peacefully slipped away from me. There are no words to tell you how grateful I am to this wonderful, fantastic place. I will try my best to continue to support them when the lockdown is lifted. Barchester should be proud and privileged to have such a wonderful and caring home with their name."

"The staff looking after my mother-in-law are excellent. The facilities are good and there is a pleasant atmosphere when visiting. There are activities that the residents can participate in if they wish or they can sit on comfortable chairs and watch the TV. My mother-in-law has to have 1 to 1 care. The care staff are excellent with her care. There is also tea/coffee making facilities for visitors to have free of charge."

"A recent period of hospitalisation following a fall in a previous home, provided a good opportunity to move my Dad to Ashlar House where he is closer to his family. The staff have been attentive and supportive - they have settled Dad in and have got him involved with the numerous activities going on. It is great to see Dad so happy. Ashlar House put in the extra effort to provide a fun and stimulating home for residents in which friends and family are always made welcome."

"We are closing another year 2019 chapter and 2020 is on our doorstep. I just wanted to write a sincere thank you to Ashlar House from management, nurses, activities manager, kitchen staff to cleaning staff and maintenance. My mother has been at Ashlar House since May 2018 and has developed both physically and mentally in this time. The cleanliness and personal hygiene standers are extremely high, as I have visited at many different times of the day, and my mother always looked well turned out. A special aspect of my mother's progression is due to activities done by the activities management, crafts and seasonal well thought out tasks to be done by able residents. At times my mother needed nursing care, and again this has been totally professionally undertaken at all times. I believe a refurbishment will start in January 2020 and look forward to seeing this compleated Thank you all at Ashlar House for your professional and heartfelt care there!"

"Our friend died recently after about five years in Ashlar House with dementia. Throughout his stay, he has been cared for with great compassion and the atmosphere created by staff has been one of friendliness and good humour. Being unable to communicate he always ate well until the end and the staff were always on hand to help whenever we visited. Would recommend this home to others."

"I am the daughter of a resident from Ashlar House Care Home who sadly passed away in the early hours of yesterday morning whilst in your care. I just wanted to express my deepest felt appreciation and massive thanks for everything that the care staff did for my mum during her last few harrowing months/weeks of her life in at Ashlar House. I simply just cannot speak highly enough of the staff’s genuine kindness, concern and ongoing dedication. I honestly feel that they went above and beyond the call of duty in caring for my mum. They all work so tirelessly hard in carrying out a very physically and emotionally demanding job and I never once heard a single one of them moan. They were always so warm, welcoming and friendly and couldn’t do more to go out of their way to help my mum in any way humanly possible given her high level of requirements."

"we only got to experience this care home for a short period, but I have to say throughout the time we spent visiting here we found all staff amazing. From when we first went to view the home the staff were helpful and most of all approachable. Nothing seemed too much which to us was a major positive. The time my friend spent within the care home improved her quality of life and the staff made sure she was comfortable at all times. They also made an effort to get her out of bed and if she couldn't then they would bring activities to her which made my friends day. I think the thing that stood out to us was that the staff seemed to care and have time for the residents."

"I am in constant daily contact with staff at Ashlar House and visit often. I am amazed by how professional and kind they all are, from kitchen staff to nurses. My Mother has become very relaxed at Ashlar House now that she has been there a year on the 15th of May. When I think back to how she was then and now it's such a development healthwise and general wellbeing. Mum smiles daily and chats to staff, I feel Mum couldn't be looked after more anywhere else. A great big thank you to all the management and staff at Ashlar House. I find the stimulation activities done at Ashlar House are beneficial to Mum's condition, ie. seasonal craft making or cooking practice etc. That's an added bonus that has helped my mother develop I believe in functioning ways."

"My mother-in-law has been a resident at Ashlar for more than four years and she appears to be very happy there. I say ‘appears to be’ because sadly she can no longer communicate in this way but I know that the standards are high and the care from the staff is second to none. They are always so kind, considerate and unbelievably patient. The meals are excellent too and, even though her food now has to be puréed for her, it is still presented as attractively and imaginatively as is possible. There are many areas to walk around and there are three gardens, a dining room and two lounges. One further positive factor is the appointment of the Acting Manager and the resulting stability this has brought to the wonderful staff of Nurses and Carers. Ashlar has further strengthened and improved as there is now a focus on valuable in-house knowledge and expertise being constructively shared."

"My dear Mother has been living at the Ashlar care home now for some time and my visits are often. I couldn't be more happier with my Mothers care. Ashlar is a very happy home to many residents and their families. Family afternoons with song and music take place regularly, these afternoons are very pleasant and I have enjoyed being part of them. My Mother's care is superb and I speak very highly of the home and all the staff there. The food is very tasty, the home is always clean and warm and during the different seasons, the home is decorated accordingly. (Easter/Christmas/Mother's Day, and so on). I have great pleasure in submitting this review and am very happy to share my views of Ashlar. I would highly recommend Ashlar to anyone's relative."

They are always friendly and show respect towards the family and listen/act on any concerns. The nursing staff are vigilent to his medical needs and let us know of any changes. The domestic staff work tirelessly to keep the home clean and tidy to a very high standard. A fantastic new activities coordinator has brought a breath of fresh air to the care home and endless smiles, hugs, fun and entertainment which my dad can now be part of. We would definitely recommend this home to others looking for a member of their family."

"My husband has been in Ashlar House for about 16 months and seems very comfortable in there. The staff are very friendly and helpful and it became a second home for me as well. The home is very clean and never smells like some places do. The residents get fed very well in there as well. All in all, I am very pleased."

"I found the home very welcoming and with a lovely relaxing atmosphere. The staff are both professional and naturally caring. Great attention is paid to both the physical and emotional needs of the residents whilst maintaining a relaxed at home feel. It was a really pleasurable visit full of optimism and happy interactions with staff and residents. Nothing felt institutionalization just felt like a pleasant and safe place to be."

"Ashlar house is a friendly, cheerful and warm place to be. The staff try their very best to make the residents feel at home and are always willing to help residents mentally and physically in a professional and caring manner. I have been visiting my mother at Ashlar House for over six months and feel my mother is safe and happy there. I couldn't ask for more! I would fully recommend it to anyone looking for a safe and professional environment for their loved ones. I would like to give a big Thank You to all staff at Ashlar House and wish them all a very Happy Christmas and healthy NEW YEAR 2019! Melvin Springham ."

"Three of us visit weekly and have been friends of our resident pal for 60 years. Whilst our friend is unable to talk and is incontinent, the staff treat him with respect and compassion. They encourage him and provide for his needs. They are friendly to visitors, and the home has a good atmosphere, given the difficulties in providing care for patients with memory loss. We have singalongs with visiting musicians and it can be fun."

"I am thoroughly happy with my mum's level of care that is given at her home (Ashlar House). All the staff at all times are here to answer any queries that I have. Most important of all my mum is always rested and settled. Personal hygiene is very satisfactory."

"This care home has been caring for my friend for almost three years. He had also been in short time respite on two previous occasions. Along with two other friends, we visit the home almost every week and note continually the hard work, caring attitude and friendly atmosphere despite the challenges of the 'guests'. I commend all the staff on their compassionate care in looking after my lifelong friend and others in the home."

"My grandmother is extremely settled at Ashlar. She has been a resident for over 3 years and although her dementia has worsened, she is always treated with respect and dignity by her carers. Her individual needs are addressed and activities are planned to fit in with her interests. Ashlar has a wonderful feel about it. It is bright, clean and airy and the atmosphere is always positive. I honestly don’t think that my grandmother could be in a better place."

"My mother has been a resident at Ashlar for more than 3 years and she has generally been very happy there. When she was able to articulate, she would always say that it was a lovely place and would comment on how clean and tidy it was. Sadly my mother cannot communicate in this way anymore but I know that the standards are high and the care from the staff is second to none. They are always so kind and considerate. The food is excellent too and there is always a choice. There are many areas to walk around and there are three gardens, two lounges and a dining room. Activities take place in the lounges frequently or on a one to one basis, but residents can retire to their rooms if they wish. I would not hesitate to recommend Ashlar House."

"Barchester Ashlar House, Epping, with extremely efficient staff and facilities. My dad had a very happy, active time where every member of staff was very friendly, very professional and Dad felt as though he belonged to another family. The activities kept Dad happy and active. I am very grateful Dad spent time at Ashlar House as his time there was very memorable. The food was excellent too. I can not thank ALL the staff enough for making Dad's time so very special. Definitely a Care Home to be recommended."

"Having viewed numerous care homes for my mother as soon as we walked into Ashlar House we were impressed. An extremely friendly home amongst staff and other residents families. Excellent care is given to my mother, we have no complaints at all. The home is clean, the food is great. Some really nice activities are put on. We made the right choice for our mother and I would highly recommend Ashlar House."

"When my mother first arrived in Ashlar House from hospital she was able to sit in a wheelchair, have her hair done, eat her meals at a table and do her makeup. She was treated with the greatest respect and care by all staff - the manager, nurses, carers and caregivers. Now sadly she is bedridden and was no will to improve as she wants to join her husband in gods kingdom. The treatment she is receiving is the best you can get in my opinion. All staff are kind and caring at all times. I'm so impressed with the whole set up at Ashlar House and feel we could not better it."

"My mother has been with Barchester Ashlar House Care Home for 2 and a half years and I have always found the staff to be helpful and the home to be clean. Even though there have been a few changes in management in the last few years, we now have a new, hopefully, permanent manager and it now seems that things are now on a more even footing. Overall, the care/security and helpfulness of the management, nurses, carers and even housekeeping and chefs is always second to none."

"My mother spent 18 months in Ashlar house. The last 10/11 months she was bed-ridden and totally dependant on staff for every need. The staff showed great care and compassion and mum responded well to their efforts. The way mum's passing was handled was very comforting. Ashlar House cares for those with Alzheimer's disease and I have nothing but admiration for the staff there. All facilities were clean and food excellent."

"My Nan came as end of life patient. The care she received was the most amazing any family could ask for. From the general manager to the carers to the cooks all did this home so proud! My family and I couldn't have asked for a more pleasant experience in such a hard and difficult time. Thank you so much."

"My mum was admitted to Ashlar House Care Home for end of life care. The care staff, nurses and management treated her with such kindness, warmth, dignity and respect. You would have thought she was actually a member of their own personal family. Nobody was too busy to give me an update on how my mum had been that day and all the time I was away from mum's bedside I had no worries that she was not being cared for because she was. Mum's bedroom and bed linen was always clean and tidy and mum's personal care was outstanding. Unfortunately, my mum passed away but I would not have wished her to pass anywhere else than Ashlar House Care Home. Thank you, everyone, for taking care of my lovely mum."
