Activities at Ashby House Care Home

Activities at Ashby House

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.

There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.

Charlotte Arbon

Activities Coordinator

I joined Ashby House in April 2022, I thoroughly enjoy my role as Activities coordinator and love coming to work and having chats with the residents and families.

I listen to the residents and learn about their interest and support them to be involved with activities.  When I am not at work not at work I love spending time with my family playing board games.

We would love to have new ideas, if you have a skill you would like to share or would like to be involved with activities please email us at ashbyhouse.activities@barchester.com

Life at Ashby House Care Home

,

Vintage car display

We were very happy to have members from the Milton Keynes Classic Car Club come to Ashby House and display all there great cars for our residents to enjoy.

Our residents were thrilled to see all of the different classic cars and it took them right back to their younger years.

Church Service

We are delighted to announce we have finally resumed our monthly in house church services with St Marys Church , Woughton Parish, MK.

Our residents have really enjoyed being able to attend these services, and we are looking forward now to our Christmas service next month.

Firework Display

We held a firework display at Ashby House on 5th November for residents and the public to come and enjoy, we had freshly made Parkin cake and teas and coffees for refreshments and we had a good turn our of residents families and our local community also.

Everyone really enjoyed the display it’s was a lovely atmosphere and we plan to do it again next year.

Summer Sunshine

We made the most of the last of the September sunshine and some of our residents got out into our lovely gardens here at Ashby House.

We all know that being outside in the fresh air has many benefits, including lifting our spirits, strengthening our immune functions, as well as enhancing relationships and prompting conversations.

We enjoyed looking at the plants and the changing colours of the leaves on the trees, taking in the sound of the wildlife and then we all had tea and coffee and biscuits together.

Chinese Dining

Our monthly-themed dining experiences always go down very well, with everyone enjoying the atmosphere and the cultural cuisine, and this month it was the turn of the popular Chinese theme.

The dining areas, as usual, were decorated beautifully, with music from Chinese culture playing in the background, and a wonderful, freshly made Chinese menu made by our chefs, which consisted of vegetable spring rolls, chicken in black bean sauce, sticky Chinese BBQ pork belly served on egg fried rice and a vegetable sweet and sour chow mein.

The residents really enjoyed the evening and are already looking forward to next months.

World First Aid Day

We had two community advocates, Shahid and Sina, from the Buckingham Branch of St Johns Ambulance come in and give our resident’s a talk and demonstrations on basic first aid.

They asked our group of residents if anyone had ever done any first aid before and two of our residents, Gill and Rose, both answered that they had, as Rose used to work as a District Nurse and Gill had worked in an older persons day centre.

The volunteers told us all about how to make a 999 call, checking people's airways for breathing; showed us a demonstration on how to put people in the recovery position, what to do when someone is choking, giving us a demonstration on how to give backslaps and abdominal thrusts.
