Activities at Ashby House Care Home

Activities at Ashby House

Our Activities Coordinators are constantly striving to enrich peoples lives here at Ashby House. We stimulate people both physically and mentally by organising fun filled, group and individual activities to promote the well-being of those we support.

There are regular outings in our very own minibus and visits from PAT dog therapists, church services, musicians, dancers, and local school children. We also have our very own 'Good Life' gardening club, where we grow our own produce, which we then use in our cooking club. We also host weekly bingo sessions which are proving very popular and are growing in numbers.

Charlotte Arbon

Activities Coordinator

I joined Ashby House in April 2022, I thoroughly enjoy my role as Activities coordinator and love coming to work and having chats with the residents and families.

I listen to the residents and learn about their interest and support them to be involved with activities.  When I am not at work not at work I love spending time with my family playing board games.

We would love to have new ideas, if you have a skill you would like to share or would like to be involved with activities please email us at ashbyhouse.activities@barchester.com

Life at Ashby House Care Home

Trying some delicious vegetarian food

Our Health and Wellbeing day included a fabulous virtual cooking demonstration by Chef Alex, from an organisation called Vegetarian for life. He showed Ashby House residents how to bake a variety of vegetarian dishes including vegetable fritters, vegetable pate, Coronation Quorn in puff pastry and banana bread. Our own Chefs received the recipes beforehand and cooked the same food in advance so we could all taste the demonstrated dishes with our afternoon tea. Rose loved it all, especially the banana bread.

Keeping fit with the Green Goddess

For Health and Wellbeing Day we enjoyed a virtual keep fit session with Diana Moran, aka the Green Goddess, famous for being on breakfast TV in the 1980s. She is in her 80s now but still keeping fit. Rose and other Ashby House residents loved joining in with her seated exercise moves. We also had a talk on mindfulness and wellbeing, and we all felt a bit more flexible and relaxed afterwards.

Commemorating VE Day

At Ashby House we commemorated VE Day with memorabilia, decorations and music. We enjoyed a virtual concert of well known songs of the 1940s, sung by the Bel Canto Sopranos which we all joined in with, waving our Union Jacks. Our Chef, Roselyn, prepared a delicious afternoon tea of sausage rolls, scones and trifle.

A relaxing massage and manicure

Briony, Activities Coordinator, has been offering residents a lovely, sensory, relaxing hand massage along with some one-to-one conversation. Afterwards Jean and other Ashby House residents were offered a manicure and choice of nail polish.

Chris enjoys his trains

Our Life Enrichment programme gives residents opportunities to recall and revisit hobbies and interests that they enjoyed before moving to Ashby House. Chris has enjoyed spending time with Fiona, Activities Coordinator, reminiscing about the steam trains and railways he has visited. They read Chris’s magazines and books together, and watched DVDs of historic steam trains.
