What our families say

Ashby House is a lovely place. The staff are always so kind, and the level of care is exceptional. It wasn't easy finding the best home for my wife's long term care, but once we saw Ashby House, we knew she would be in very good hands.

My mother-in-law was placed at Ashby House, Eaglestone this year (2018) for palliative care. The home is light, fresh and airy. My mother-in-law had a lovely light room with a view of the private gardens which was lovely for her to look out on during the last few weeks of her life. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful and cared for her in a very friendly and professional manner. They were also very kind to me as I spent a lot of time there bringing me tea and food when I stayed late. Nothing was a problem for them and they cared for both me and my mother-in-law. When it came to the end, the carers could not have been more soothing and helpful. This is not only a calming place for palliative care, but a home for many residents who were very happy with the friendly surroundings. I highly recommend this home which was a great help to me during a very emotional time.

My wife has been in Ashby House for over three years now, and in all that time I have felt that she couldn't be better looked after. The carers are just great, every one of them. Always kind, always considerate, and always willing to help in any way they can. A big thank you to everyone involved in my wife's care.

My Mum was in Ashby House for 5 and a half years. Throughout her time, there she received exceptional care from management, nurses, and carers alike . Nobody would wish their dearest loved one to be in care, but this home became like family to us. Always welcoming whatever time we would arrive. Always supportive. My Mum was given loving care right to the end. This is a home I would definitely recommend .

A few days before Christmas I was told that my husband was "medically fit" for discharge from hospital despite his frailness and his inability to walk. I had to look for somewhere he could go for respite care at very short notice and a friend recommended Ashby House. I am so glad I took up her recommendation.
From the moment I walked in to the welcoming Reception area I immediately felt a calm, kind, warm and reassuring atmosphere and I was pleased, after a tour, to find there was a room available with a garden view. I felt very comfortable leaving my husband in their care and he moved in a couple of days later.
I cannot speak too highly of the care he has received from everyone there ... from the Manager, through Admin, the Nurses, the Carers right down to domestic help - everyone smiles and is pleasant. I, too, am welcomed warmly and treated with great kindness.
The care he has received has enabled him fully to participate in Physiotherapy (provided by a local NHS team) to the extent that he is able to walk (with aids) and we are now making plans for him to come home.
Yes, it has been a long haul and quite an expensive interlude BUT I would say that Ashby House has been worth every penny and, if someone is considering placing a loved one in care, then I have no hesitation is saying, "Pay Ashby House a visit first".

"Just before Christmas my husband was discharged from hospital but, due to his needs, wasn't able to come home. A friend recommended Barchester Ashby House Care Home. I am just so glad that she did. From the moment I was shown around by one staff member in particular, through interview with the manager, and my various dealings with other staff, I was impressed by an atmosphere of warmth, friendliness, kindness and helpfulness. To have to find respite care just before Christmas is not easy but Ashby House stepped up to the mark making a difficult job run smoothly. My husband has been cared for wonderfully well over the past weeks, is happily settled and is full of praise for the kindness and respect shown to him by all the staff. Unfortunately, he will not be able to return home as hoped but I feel happy leaving him there knowing how he and I are treated. Getting to know staff better is a great experience, as is meeting other residents and their families - everyone is friendly and nice. I would highly recommend Ashby House."

"Our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Ashby House. I am so pleased that we were able to get Mum into this home. Whilst the care staff are exceptionally busy, Mum was treated with kindness, care and dignity. The nursing staff worked collaboratively with our family to keep Mum pain-free and gave us clear information and advice. In Mum's final days, they gave Mum and our family exceptional care. They kept us fully informed on what was happening and the likely outcomes. Yesterday, when Mum passed away, they made sure our family had the time needed to say goodbye to Mum and handled the official duties of death efficiently and with the deepest compassion. The home is very clean. The service user's rooms are well cared for. Food is plentiful. The lounge areas are beautifully decorated. There are activities for those who can participate. Mum enjoyed the coronation meal. Thank you seems inadequate somehow, but it is genuinely and sincerely given."

"Dad transferred her from another care home last November. I was initially very concerned about him leaving his other care home. I needn't have worried, Dad is treated with such kindness, respect and dignity here at Barchester Ashby House Care Home. He is extremely settled and happy here and the staff cannot do enough for him. He enjoys the food choices, activities and likes his room (when he can find it!) It is such peace of mind for me to see him contented and making new connections with staff and other residents."

"My husband came into Barchester Ashby House Care Home end of October 2018, he was transferred from another home. He came on six weeks end of life care, he is still with us. He is well looked after always kept clean and he is well fed. The staff are always there if needed and very helpful. My husband spends time asleep very rarely out of bed. Overall he is well looked after I could not ask for more."

"I would like to thank all the staff at Barchester Ashby House Care Home for the fantastic care and support they gave to my nan and my family when she stayed with you following her operation. My nan was very poorly, but she kept saying how kind and lovely all the staff were and they looked after her until she felt strong enough to come home. We chose Ashby House because my mother-in-law stayed there a couple of years ago, and my nan is so happy they had space when we needed them in an emergency. Nan will definitely choose to stay again. The homemade cakes and biscuits are unmatched!"

"My wife was agitated and distressed prior to admission and the staff turned that around incredibly quickly. By the time of my first visit, she was calmer than she had been in months, content and actually eating again. I have nothing but praise for the staff, they are patient and kind and seem very fond of my wife. She feels safe and mostly calm again. My only criticism so far is that recently when I picked her up to take her for a hospital appointment she didn't have the right incontinence pads on so an accident in the car proved to be very messy."

"My husband has been staying at Barchester Ashby House Care Home since early January. I find that he is getting good care from the staff. He is being kept safe which is important to me. I am happy with the standard of care and the carers are well-trained and capable. My only concern is that there seems to be a shortage of staff, resulting in residents having to wait quite a long time to be attended to, especially in the morning."

"My mum had to be moved to a home in July and finding the right one was a stressful time. The team at Barchester Ashby House Care Home were amazing and from the first phone call with the administrator through to getting Mum settled was a great experience. The team really cares and have gone the extra mile to make sure that Mum was settled. The room is lovely and the facilities are well-kept and the open spaces are welcoming. Only small glitch is that the wi-fi in some rooms is not as strong and maintaining contact is not always possible. That aside, it is a great place and we are very happy Mum has a new home. I can fully recommend Ashby House."

"My husband is a long-time resident - now four years. Always been very happy with care and support. No real concerns to report - always kept informed if he is not so well. Some days, recently, feel less than usual staff available but those that are available are always so kind and friendly and work so hard. When occasional visitors accompany me, they always comment on the cleanliness with no stale toilet or cooking smells and welcoming staff."

"The manager visited me in the hospital after showing my partner around Ashby House Care Home. She gave me lots of helpful information and agreed that I could go there the following day. On arrival, I was very warmly welcomed by the manager and various members of staff. I had a cup of tea and a biscuit in my room and was then given a tour of the corridors and day spaces in a wheelchair. It was then lunchtime and I had an enjoyable lunch with other residents. Throughout my week's stay, I was very well looked after. All staff were very friendly and helpful during the day and overnight. I would recommend Ashby House Care Home."

"Generally, poor care homes receive justifiably bad press but rarely do excellent homes receive the praise they deserve. Ashby House deserves all the accolades you can muster. It is fresh, clean and tidy and their facilities are exemplary. The staff are genuinely caring and experienced. My mother was admitted for palliative/end of life care recently after spending some 5 weeks in the hospital. If she had been admitted earlier, she wouldn't have lived any longer but her last days would have been more comfortable and dignified."

"I felt that the residents were always treated with kindness and patience. The staff worked hard to provide a very caring and calming environment sometimes in quite challenging situations. There always seemed to be a lot of activities happening. It was good to see a full timetable displayed each week. As visitors, we were always made to feel very welcome and during the night we spent at my nan's bedside, the staff could not have done more to help us (despite being very busy with their usual duties). The home was always spotlessly clean and tidy."

"Like most children when faced with having to place a parent in a care home you're worried is this the right place, will they be treated with dignity and respect. Will they have all their needs met. Ashby House is wonderful. The nurses and carers go above and beyond to mee my dd's needs. They tall to him as a person and give him choices of what he wants i.e up what to eat going outings, eating in the dining room to socialise. Dad loves his new home just after we moved him there they had a BBQ out in the garden. All the family members were invited. There was a DJ playing a variety of music. A great way to meet new friends and other families. There are daily activities that encourage the residents to try something new. There are weekly outings for anyone who wishes to go out. The nurses have been a tremendous help with my dad's illness and the empathy they show is wonderful. They help with any worries or concerns. The carers are wonderful. If they are busy they strive to make sure our loved ones are cared for. The time spent talking to all the people who reside here learning about their lives, interests, history of work and more. The kitchen staff make wonderful home-cooked meals. They try to make sure there is a variety of choices daily and follow any special restrictions. The laundry and housekeeping were diligent to ensure the home is clean every day all day. Your laundry is done daily without you having to worry. There is tea, coffee and water always available to everyone in the lobby. You will always find cake there too. We are very pleased that we chose Ashby House as my/our dads new home."

"We are so grateful for the support that our mum and we were given during her short stay at Ashby House and the kindness we were shown. All the staff were very friendly, courteous and professional. Our mum was treated with dignity and her wishes respected by all the staff at Ashby House. The nurses were very caring, reassuring and proactive. They brought in the correct medical professionals to support our mother's well being, kept on top of all medical needs, sorted out a special mattress and chased up on medical appointments. They kept us fully informed on our mother's condition in a very compassionate way. The carers were very cheerful and caring. They took time to sit with our mum and nothing was too much trouble. Both the manager and deputy manager fully understood our mum's special needs and circumstances which eased our worries considerably. They were very approachable and made all the appropriate arrangements. We cannot recommend Ashby House highly enough and we will be forever grateful."

"Since my mum sadly passed at Ashby House last August they have given the home a most beautiful makeover. I have to say it is like walking into a 1st class hotel. The rooms are beautifully and tastefully done. The reception, lounges and dining room are also beautiful. I was glad to see that most of the staff still worked there and they are helping to create a warm and inviting environment for the Residents and their families. A very beautiful caring home. I would recommend it to anyone. Now 5 star."

"We had to find a care home on very short notice for my ailing grandmother. We were shown around by the very welcoming manager. The care home was beautifully presented, clean and friendly. The residents all looked content and happy. As soon as my grandmother arrived she was given the best care possible. The nurse was very good at explaining what would happen with my grandmother’s health and we were immediately put at ease. The care my grandmother received was nothing short of compassionate and excellent. Our only wish was that we would have loved to have got her to Ashby Care Home sooner."

Staff nurses very very competent and admiral and helpful. People will need to see Ashby House, it's so much changed. The lounge could benefit of new furniture, its memory lane. Staff are smiling, says good evening every time I call in."
