Activities at Alice Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen
Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.
I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.
I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at Alice Grange Care Home

My Time Serving on The Royal Yacht HMY Britannia by Geoff Holloway
Geoff’s wife Patricia had stayed with us for respite care while Geoff could go on holiday.
Geoff has the motivation to still travel and why not at 83? Surely this must stem from his time travelling when younger starting at 17 when Geoff joined the Navy.
Geoff was so pleased in knowing that his wife was being cared for by us that he said he would like to give a talk on his time serving on The Royal Yacht HMY Britannia as a small way of saying thank you.
Our residents enjoyed the talk and looking at the pictures Geoff had from all those years ago even a menu from 1962 Christmas menu aboard the HMY Britannia.

Easter Trail and Meet the Easter Bunny
Our Easter Trail was an absolute hit with children of our residents friends and family and the community joining us.
We were a bit cheeky as we held this on April 1st so with this being April Fool's day we not only had 50 golden tickets to be cracked from an egg but 50 April Fool's pranks.
Of course, everyone who joined us on the day received an Easter Egg from our Easter Bunny.

Lifelong Supporter of Arsenal Football Club
David is a very private gentleman who has been a lifelong supporter of Arsenal Football Club. David will quite often talk of his love of the team and matches that he remembers, the most talked match is the 1971 FA Cup Final where Charlie George scored the winning goal against Liverpool Football Club to secure an historic double winning season for the club.
Penny our lead activities coordinator was fortunate enough to meet Charlie George while at the Emirates Stadium in North London and had taken some very special unique pictures of Charlie George and was happy to share one of these with David, of which she framed and presented to him on his day of being resident of the day and VIP for the day.
David was so pleased to receive this gift and said he will treasure it forever.

Pictures that hold memories
Margaret who lives with dementia carries her Mother’s picture with her at all times unfortunately the frame became worn. So we treated Margaret to a new frame and added her Mother's name.
Margaret was so grateful to receive this gift which we presented to her as she was our VIP for the day on our resident of the day.
This was such good timing in the Mother's Day run-up, bringing Margaret joy and happiness.

Bingo Bonanza
Our residents were ready with their dabbers at hand and eyes down for Barchesters first Bingo Bonanza, all residents that attended really enjoyed the afternoon and said it really took them back to the days when some would visit the Bingo Halls.
We were lucky enough to shout House on a couple of occasions.

Tools and trades history society
Staff and residents at Barchester’s Alice Grange care home in Kesgrave Ipswich invited Keith Hillman from Tools and trades history society and his Grandson Alfie to talk about and demonstrate many tools from the past and talking about the history of these tools.
Reminiscing and talking about these tools brought back so many memories of family members of our residents who used these in their trades.
The staff and residents got into the spirit of the afternoon and many questions were put to Keith who was very informative as was Alfie who is learning so much from his Grandad.
Tools and Trades History society were established in 1983 as a Charity, their aim is to advance the education of the general public in the history and development of hand tools and their use and of the people and trades that use them.
General Manager,Raciel Sagun, said: “We welcome many guest speakers to our home and our residents enjoy the talk and demonstrations, finding out so much about their past and reminiscing along the way brings back so many memories.
