Activities at Alice Grange Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Penny Allen
Hi, my name is Penny and I am the Lead Activities Coordinator here at Alice Grange.
I have many years of experience working in care homes in Activities, leisure and lifestyle roles.
I love being part of the Alice Grange team and supporting our residents to live their best lives with fun, interesting, and varied activities available every week. I always feel that the residents' input into our weekly planner is important as it gives all residents equal opportunity to explore new interests as well as keeping up with previous passions and hobbies.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Pudding Club
Our monthly Pudding Club is much more than an opportunity to eat delicious cakes, tarts, brulees, roulades, crumbles, jellies and trifles. It is a celebration of the decades of cooking experience our residents have.
Each month our Chef recreates some of our resident's favourite desserts, often favourites that have fallen out of fashion or that are no longer produced in the same way. Our residents supply Chef with recipes, tips and processes that they have perfected over many years of baking for their families.
By the time other staff and family members also start bringing their own creations along as well, we often end up with a veritable pudding-feast for all to enjoy - which means we see a lot families (especially grandchildren) visiting at this time each month!
Ensuring that we host events that relatives and friends can join is very important to us here at Alice Grange.

Trip To Suffolk Food Hall
This week we took a trip out to the Suffolk Food Hall to enjoy the fantastic food as well as the incredible views. After coffee and cake overlooking the Orwell Bridge, we nosed around the food hall and picked up some treats for home.
Regular outings are just one aspect of our life enrichment program and all the trips we take are at the request of the residents. Our monthly activities calendar boasts a range of outings and entertainment.

Mini Bus Outing to Ipswich Marina
On one of the rare sunny days that we are getting we headed out to Ipswich Marina to soak up the sun and to have morning coffee.
Taking the residents of Alice Grange out on trips of their choice and seeing how the area is changing opens up conversation and reminiscing of times gone by.

Birthday Lunch at Milsomes and Thankyou to our Volunteers
Alice Grange celebrated resident Keith's birthday and a thank you to our Volunteers Julie and Mike Sheilds for their dedication to Alice Grange. Julie’s Mum who is a resident at Alice Grange also joined in the celebrations.

Vineyard visit and tour
This year, English Wine Week takes place from June 15th to 23rd and is being celebrated by wine enthusiasts from all over the country.
Whether you love a glass of fizz, a nice dry white, a delicate rosé, a juicy red or all of the above, English Wine Week is the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of English wines. It is no longer unusual to see fields of vines in England or to find English brands on the wine list in restaurants, English wines are now a force to be reckoned with.
To mark the occasion, residents had so much fun taking part in a visit to Shawsgate Vineyard and Winery taking in a tour, and some wine-tasting masterclass led by Katie where they found out about all the different styles of English wines, discovering how English winemaking first started and how much it has grown. Coinciding this with Suffolk Day was such a treat to sample English wines all being produced just outside the market town of Framlingham
Penny Allen Lead Activities Coordinator at Alice Grange Care Home said: “We have all learned so much this week about English wines, how they are made, and all the different styles, we had no idea there were so many different types of grapes being grown in this country, let alone only a few miles from Ipswich. Our residents really enjoyed their tasting session and their guided tour of the vineyard.
David, our Deputy Resident Ambassador at Alice Grange commented: “I love a glass of wine, there really isn’t anything better. I really enjoyed trying some different styles, I had no idea just how many vineyards there are in England now. It was hard to choose my favourite wine as all were very palatable !”

Pictures that mean something
Working with Margaret’s family to gather pictures from the past then spending time with Margaret to make this delightful memory for her that now is framed and on her wall.
That Smile from Margaret from Memory Lane just says it all, she was so proud of her pictures from the past and adding quotes in her own words.
