Activities at Wykeham House Care Home

Our activities team are great at building the activities programme around the likes and interests of the people we care for. Ensuring that our social events offer fun and adventure is part of the ethos of our home; it’s important that those we support can enjoy an active and social lifestyle. Of course, there will always be those who prefer peace and quiet, and in these instances, a cup of tea and a chat are always welcomed.

Rachel Stevens

Activities Lead

I joined Wykeham House in October 2022 but I have worked doing activities in care homes since I left College, I began volunteering in a local home when I was 15 years old and then took on my first job in a care home when I was 18. I have enjoyed extending my knowledge to improve my work and have a Level 2 in Dementia Awareness, Domestic Abuse Awareness and Mental Health Awareness. I have also attended courses on End-Of-Life Activities as well as Dementia focused Activities. I love what I do and for me it is important that every day is a new day for our residents with new opportunities and a smiling face to come with it.

Let's get creative.

On the 16th January, our residents enjoyed a brilliant afternoon celebrating and engaging with National Flower Day. Our residents and staff where inspired with the beautiful colours and flowers that this season brings spending time creating and making flower arrangements for our home.  A good time was had by all. We have some very talented residents.

Delivery of the Vaccine

A massive 'Thank You' to Birchwood medical practice who this week vaccinated all our residents. Our residents were delighted to receive the first round of the vaccine without having to leave their home. Our staff and resident's are so grateful. The medical team from Birchwood practice are regular visitors to Wykeham House so our residents were extra comfortable and reassured with the delivery of the first vaccine.

Good Luck Diminga

After fifteen years of dedication to Wykeham House we said farewell to Diminga one of our nurses- who has retired to her homeland of Gambia.  The residents and staff at Wykeham wished her good luck and farewell with a party.  We will never forget what you have done for us Diminga.  Good Luck with your next life chapter.

Festive and New Year Quiz

Wykeham House Care Home staff and residents pulled out all the stops by dressing up in their glittery Christmas best to link up with all the other care homes in the south of the country for a whole host of different fun activities culminating in the Barchester Big Quiz of the Year.  When they weren’t quizzing, residents enjoyed a feast of festive foods prepared by the home’s chef, Robert Telus and his team

Lovely letters and cards from Oakwood School

We had a large number of cards, hand crafted by the year7 students of Oakwood School, Horley, delivered to us today.

The cards had been quarantined since last week. The cards had love messages for our residents and were letting them know that local people care about them. Thank you Oakwood School this means so much to our residents.

An outside visit.

Thank you so much to Toad Hall Nursery who support and visit Wykeham House regularly.  This Christmas due to the restriction the children sung around our outside Christmas Tree.  It was such a treat.  Toad Hall also came armed with cards and tree decorations.  Just lovely to see you all.
