Activities at White Lodge Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen

Activities Coordinator

Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.

Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.

Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.

We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Easter Crafting Traditions

The residents at White Lodge Care Home started the week with some fun filled Easter arts and crafts.

The activity coordinator gathered residents for a delightful Easter egg decorating session, where they unleashed their creativity and decorated eggs with colourful designs, stickers, and glitter. the session providing a variety of decorating materials, including non-toxic paint, markers, and embellishments, allowing residents to personalise their eggs according to their preferences.

This activity promotes artistic expression, fine motor skills, and the joy of Easter traditions.

Parkinson's Awareness Week

The staff, volunteers, residents family and friends celebrated Parkinson's awareness week and spent time with Parkinson Disease Specialist nurse, Suz Jackson learning about how Parkinson can affect different parts of the brain and the body causing involuntary movements or rigidity in muscles which can then ‘freeze up’ and not work.

They also learned about the possible psychological impact of the medication used to treat disease which can cause compulsive behaviours and depression in some people.  It can also be linked to a reduced sense of smell, impaired vision and attention deficit disorder.

Cheers & beers!

This afternoon the residents and staff of white lodge care home celebrated National Beer Day with beer tasting event. Our hospitality team brought a range of brewtiful British ales for residents to sample and they enjoyed a beer tasting in the lounge learning about history of beer as well as taking part in quiz.

One of the residents JS said " What a selection of choices! My husband used to love beer and I will drink on his behalf." In a break with tradition two ladies decided to swap their beers for pints of Piña colada's ... and why not!
