Activities at White Lodge Care Home
Our Activities Coordinators here at White Lodge enjoy the fulfillment of helping residents feel important and a part of something. Meaningful moments are created through laughter and comfort. A varied activities programme is offered for the betterment of residents' bodies and minds, including music for health, 'Oomph' sessions and chair Zumba, in addition to coffee and cake groups that all inevitably lead to giggles and old fashioned singalongs. Also, we organise parties, trips out, walks in the country, bus outings and wonderful entertainers to visit our home. A sneaky tipple is always welcomed with cheese and crackers and, at the end of the day, it is important to go home knowing our activities have made a difference.

Shayla Sharmeen
Hi my name is Shayla and I'm the activities coordinator here at White Lodge.
Prior to taking the position, I joined White Lodge as care assistant in 2022 and loved every minute of my role. My passion is very much in supporting the day to day lives of the people we care for, it is important to me that our weekly calendar offers rich experiences with music from live entertainers, as well as arts and crafts tailored to individual abilities.
Getting to know our residents better is so important, and through regular family and friends’ meetings we can gain a greater understanding of their loved ones' interests and life prior to joining White Lodge that will make for an enriched activities program to be developed, one that keeps them at the heart of the local community. I look forward to getting to know you, and your loved ones.
We are always open to new ideas. If you would like to get involved in any of our Life Enrichment activities or have a skill, or project you'd like to share with our residents, please click here to contact me direct. New entertainers and community links are always welcome.
Activities and Events Partnerships
As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies
Life at White Lodge Care Home

Pitch and Putt Anyone?
Our residents got their hands off playing indoor golf this afternoon. It filled the atmosphere with laughter and joy!
Indoor golf is a great option for those who may have limited mobility or struggle with balance. This gentle activity can help improve flexibility, strength and coordination.

Celebrating Our Amazing Ladies
Residents and staff at White Lodge Care Home shared their thoughts on embracing and celebrating equity on the International Women’s Day!
We all enjoyed a spectacular performance by singer Nickie followed by delicious themed cupcakes courtesy of our wonderful chefs for afternoon tea.

Flippin’ Fun Pancake Day
We have been mixing up batter and flipping pancakes all morning for our annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day celebrations. Richard Harris, head chef at the home, flipped more than 100 pancakes, serving them up with sweet and savoury fillings for all the eager staff and residents to flip and fill!
He said: “My secret to the best pancakes is all in the whipping. Give it some elbow grease when mixing the batter and you’ll get perfect pancakes every time. I like experimenting with the fillings – the residents’ favourites are chocolate spread and banana and of course, good old-fashioned lemon and sugar!”
Shayla Sharmeen, Activities Coordinator at White Lodge commented: “Our residents absolutely love pancake day, it takes them back to when they made pancakes for their children or as far back to when they enjoyed them in their childhood. We’ve had so much fun today reminiscing and sharing our favourite pancake filling combinations.”

St David's Day Celebrations
The residents, staffs and volunteers at White lodge care home celebrated St David's Day with lots of daffodils around the home! To start with the residents made some paper crafted daffodils with the help of the staff and the volunteers Chris and Jenny.
Then our volunteers and residents arranged vases of daffodils to decorate the communal areas White Lodge and some of us even dressed up as daffodils too! We ended our celebration with st David's special quiz and our talented residents seem to know most of the answers with cup of tea and cakes.

White Lodge Sunshine Walks
The residents at White Lodge love it when the sun shines! They have such lovely grounds and gardens to enjoy including a large lake surrounded by weeping willows and wildlife. Assisted walks with the staff allow us all to gain fresh air and a bit of vitamin D from the gorgeous sunshine!

Trip to Local Mobile Library
The residents at white lodge visited the mobile library to choose their favourite book.
Reading for just 10 minutes a day can have astonishing benefits. Not only is it a brilliant way to relax and unwind, reading can also help boost our mood, provide an escape from the pressures of life and even reduce stress levels.
Seniors who read often enjoy much more than just a good story. Scientific studies have found many benefits of reading for older adults. These include everything from reducing stress and enhancing sleep to improving memory circuits, sharpening decision-making.
